The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining strategies that build a collaborative, organized, and cohesive approach to volunteer programs across the City's varied areas of work. This job serves as a liaison between stakeholders and partners which include internal and external groups, employees, and residents. In addition to the efforts for managing the City's volunteer program, this position serves as a point of contact for the Olathe School District as it relates to internship coordination with both the CTE and 21st Century programs and also serves as a subject matter expert in volunteer management for the City's emergency operations plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the implementation of a comprehensive volunteer experience in the City of Olathe which also includes school internship programming and coordination of volunteer activities in the event of emergency City operations; collaborates with stakeholders to identify program goals and measures of success; identifies strategies to engage new partners in the City's volunteer program; grows and maintains community partnerships and relationships.
  • Promotes a wide variety of volunteer opportunities using new and existing promotional strategies both directly and through work with other city employees who coordinate specific volunteer activities; recruits and onboards volunteers, ensuring a consistent experience and training that supports program success; coordinates work with other partners involved in organizing and scheduling the work of volunteers.
  • Creates community awareness for volunteer opportunities through public speaking and participation in networking events; serves as a representative of the City at community events and activities; promotes the brand, vision, mission, and goals of the City of Olathe through program planning and execution.
  • Documents and tracks relevant program information; identifies and records volunteer hours for reporting; reviews and monitors data for trends and identifies opportunities for improving the program.


Qualifications

Experience: Three years of experience in the coordination and scheduling of people or events is required along with demonstrated experience communicating with small and medium sized groups.

Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant area of study is required. Additional relevant experience can substitute for education.

Licenses & Certifications: Certification in Volunteer Administration is preferred.

Language: Proficiency with verbal and written English language is required. Additional proficiency with Spanish and American Sign Language preferred.
