Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated General Clerk to support the Small Business Administration (SBA) office in Birmingham, Alabama. This role is primarily focused on handling inbound and outbound collection calls in a call center environment, with a significant emphasis on meeting call metrics. You will also provide support for various administrative tasks related to document conversion, destruction, records management, and mailroom functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spend 90-95% of the day taking inbound calls and making outbound collection calls.
  • Achieve a minimum of 300 calls per week, with top performers completing up to 600 calls per week.
  • Assist with various administrative matters as needed.
  • Maintain and verify financial and other records, both manually and electronically.
  • Compile information and verify statistical reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Handle and adjust complaints, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Provide direction and training to junior clerks to meet department requirements.
  • Adapt and interpret limited guides and manuals for task completion.
  • Meet and maintain production and quality goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety regulations.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience, with at least 1 year in a related role.
  • Strong customer service experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in following Standard Operating Procedures and carrying out instructions.
  • Strong reading and keyboard skills.
  • Effective time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Capability to concentrate on fine details, such as daily report reconciliation.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds repetitively.
  • Ability to push/pull and transport objects using assistive equipment repetitively.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust security clearance prior to starting.
