DescriptionStore Support Associate (Produce Department) Marukai Markets dba TOKYO CENTRAL is one of the fastest-growing chain of retail stores and supermarkets offering the widest selection of Japanese and Hawaiian imported grocery and retail products in the nation. Customers are provided with a variety of products that you won't find in a typical grocery store environment. Fresh, seasonal, and variety of foods are our passionWe're immediately hiring associates for our Produce department and produce clerks are needed *This is a summary of some key duties and physical requirements and is not intended to be a complete job description.Benefits/Perks•Employee Discounts•Paid Sick Leave•May qualify for Health Insurance •Supplemental Insurance available for Life and Disability Insurance•401 K (after one year)ESSENTIAL DUTIES in the Produce Department (Produce Clerk) (responsibilities include, but are not limited to):•Stocking and unpacking Produce•Setting up and maintaining the condition of the Produce Department according to company standards•Ensures produce is handled, stocked, rotated and merchandised•Checks product area temperature to ensure freshness and quality•Processing and/or wrapping produce items prior to filling designated areas•Cutting, labeling, and wrapping produce•Operating pallet jack, scissor lift, baler, compactor and scrub machine•Maintaining cleanliness of the store/ store upkeep•Must clean and sanitize work areas•Work Environment will be in extreme temperatureCustomer Service:•Providing premier customer service, including greeting them and responding to questions•Engaging in suggestive selling and other sales techniques•Meets or exceeds Department's sales goals assigned through the efficient execution of Company policies and procedures•Maintains cleanliness of work area, storage area, and selling floor•Ensures a safe and clean work environment•Cross Training: •Store Support Associates exemplify teamwork and are open to and willing to be trained and step in when needed in all departments and similar skilled areas for filling and development opportunities.RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or GED equivalentMust be 18 or older to use sharp knives, use ladders, scaffolds or their substitutes, substitutes above 6 feet in height, and to operate or assist in operating power-driven machinery or equipment.Must be able to use job related equipment such as slicer, scale, saw, knife and wrapperNo experience required, but a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in a similar work environment is preferredExperience as a Produce Clerk is preferredPossess a CA Food Handling license or the ability to acquire oneMust be able to lift up to 50 pounds without aidExposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Hands are in frequent contact with water and various fruits and vegetables while performing job duties.REQUIREMENTS Comfortable with working in a kitchen environment Must be able to operate related equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucksAble to deliver friendly, courteous, prompt customer service Able to read, write, and do simple math problems Able to interpret, understand and follow instructions Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from the general public and management Ability to interact with all levels of management Has or willing to obtain a CA Food Handler's Certificate within 10 days of start dateOther job related tasks which are assigned by the supervisor and/or managerMarukai is an Equal Opportunity Employer and participates in E Verify.Marukai is very aware of the COVID-19 pandemic and practices the highest and safest levels of precautions to keep associates safe with sanitizing practices, social distancing, personal protective equipment, and safety screenings in adherence with the Health Department, CDC, State, Local and Federal laws.
