Engineering Manager

As an Engineering manager at Plantd, you will work directly with the founders to grow our team, project manage, design, and build machines that will disrupt the traditional construction materials industry. You will lead a dedicated team of junior engineers to design, fabricate, test, and iterate through current and next-generation technologies that will enable full- scale production of modern, carbon-negative building materials, bringing Plantd’s vision of sustainable building materials to life.
Day-to-day you will work on planning, designing, and testing automated production lines. You will partner with leadership and peers to develop requirements at the system level and will own the creation of CAD models, engineering drawings, structural analyses, and project planning. You will work closely with an experienced production team to make your designs a reality. Construction or materials industry experience is not required, we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving problems and want to make an impact on the world.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Leading junior engineers in the execution of Plantd’s mission to decarbonize the built environment
● Develop the most efficient carbon-sequestering machines to fix how the world builds things
● Understand fundamentals to make sure that you’re fixing things that matter
● Design machines and automated production lines at a rapid pace so we can move fast
● Work with other world-class engineers to integrate your designs into the most efficient machines possible
● Adapt to fast-changing inputs, data, specifications, and requirements
● Document designs in requirements documents, CAD models, engineering drawings, structural analyses,
engineering specifications, and bill of materials so that we can keep track of all the things you’re fixing
● Create detailed component and assembly drawings incorporating an understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups to make sure you don’t make more problems than you fix
● Create cost, mass, power, and CO2 equivalency budgets to keep track of all the things you’re fixing

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
● 5+ years of experience in designing and building mechanical systems
● 2+ years leading engineering and development teams
● Experience in project management, planning and budget management
● Proficient in the use of first-order calculations for system sizing
● Experience in reviewing engineering drawings, documentation, and assessing technical risks
● Experience in solving multidisciplinary problems from a data driven basis
● Expertise in test setup design, test planning, and report writing
● Hands-on fabrication experience: Welding, CNC milling and lathe, plasma cutting, soldering, and wiring
