Operating Room Flow Manager

Description:
NSM Manager, Nursing OR Flow manager has direct responsibility for maximizing efficiency of patient progression through perioperative experience, optimizing the surgical schedule, and supervising the front desk staff. As part of the management team, time will be spent directing and monitoring patient progression in the high volume, extremely complex perioperative departments including 18 Operating Rooms, Cardiovascular Center and other areas. Decisions made regarding patient progression and Operating Support multidisciplinary efforts to maximize on time starts and room turn over by deploying resources.
1. Management-Responsible for the supervision of the Operating room front desk staff including hiring, assignment/staffing, oversight of orientation/training, professional development and performance management. Establishes and maintains an environment conducive to high morale and job satisfaction, fulfillment of staff goals and delivery of optimum performance. Responsible for implementing and monitoring adherence to personnel and departmental policies
2. Establishes effective communications with perioperative nursing leadership, anesthesia charge person, surgeon, and hospital administration to ensure efficient utilization of the Operating Room
3. Ensures that optimum utilization is maintained with minimum use of overtime and additional staff. Impact of errors could result in major revenue losses and increased personnel expenses
4. Collaborate with Scheduling office to smooth and streamline OR utilization
5. Develops and maintains a plan of organization which facilitates congruency with organizational goals
6. Monitors the accuracy of the EPIC scheduling program and interacts with Information Systems to ensure that the integrity of the system is maintained
Qualifications:1. Must possess strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills to provide effective leadership for promoting interdisciplinary collaborative teamwork. Must demonstrate fair and equitable practice in assigning staff
2. Must possess strong analytical and organizational abilities in order to make effective decisions in an expedient manner while maintaining high quality care standards. Must be able to appropriately prioritize room and staffing resources based upon patient needs and established protocols. Uses expertise and judgement in determining appropriate patient placement and determining appropriate patient scheduling.
3. Must demonstrate ability to effectively communicate, negotiate and problem solve with physician staff over scheduling and room assignments. Must often act as a liaison between staff and physicians in determining most appropriate resource allocation
4. Must be able to demonstrate independent judgement within the scope of this position, while maintaining effective relations with outside referring organizations, internal physicians and departmental staff
