Lead Engineer, Systems Platform

The Lead Systems Platform Engineer is responsible for bioMérieux commercial system PC platforms released from the St. Louis site. This responsibility includes evaluating new hardware (PC and peripherals) and technologies and proposing solutions, configuring the OS, applying latest cybersecurity counter measures, supporting the verification and validation of the system platform, assessing the impact of changes to the system design, and performing investigations related to hardware and OS related issues. The Lead Systems Platform Engineer is a subject matter expert representing R&D across multiple functions providing input on vendor, technologies, and processes. He/she is responsible for assessing impacts and providing solution options. And he/she oversees the activities of other FTEs and/or temporary staff as needed.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Represent St. Louis System Development on the global C&P group.
Expert level assistance with the PC and peripherals selection process in collaboration with Global C&P.
Influence hardware (PC) and peripherals decisions for new development and changes to existing products.
Expert level assistance with the PC and peripherals obsolescence planning including ongoing monitoring of existing company stock and vendor quantities.
Accountable for proper documentation in accordance with design control.
Research new technologies and provide recommendations for future product planning.
Responsible for monitoring current technologies to ensure any impacts are proactively mitigated.
Expert level monitoring of cyber security OS related vulnerabilities.
Ensure latest cybersecurity patches and configurations are applied to the supported system platforms, conducting threat modeling and assessments to identify and incorporate counter measures.
Expert level assistance with the definition of networking requirements.
Assist Product Validation in networking system platforms in configurations to be expected in the field, for the purpose of validating the system platform.
Troubleshoot PC, PC peripherals, and OS related complaints including leading root cause investigations and providing workaround solutions.
Perform PC and OS impact assessments of system/component changes including proper documentation.
Lead the transfer of PC, peripheral, and OS changes to manufacturing.
Research and influence vendor decisions for PC hardware and peripherals.
Represent BMX in collaborative efforts with outside vendors.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Experience with creating PC, peripherals, and OS requirements and test cases.
Experience with configuring new and updating existing Microsoft Windows OS platforms.
Experience in Information Systems networking.
Experience with Microsoft Power Shell scripting is a plus.
Experience working in an ISO/FDA regulated environment.
Ability to interface and coordinate across functions.
Ability to communicate professionally on the topic of a given product to a regulating authority.
Ability to mentor and direct personnel.
Capable of assisting with product and process quality monitoring and improvements as needed.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:
Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field with 8+ years of experience in a relevant area of expertise (Computer Science, IS or Software Development)
OR
Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field with 6+ years of experience in a relevant area of expertise (Computer Science, IS or Software Development)
OR
Ph.D in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field with 6+ years of experience in a relevant area of expertise (Computer Science, IS or Software Development)
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows OS.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office productivity tools – primarily Excel, Word and Outlook, but also Visio, PowerPoint, and Project.
Strong professional writing skills.
Strong professional communication skills.
Proven ability to negotiate and influence decisions within R&D and across multiple departments.
