Metallurgical Engineer/Lab Supervisor

Great opportunity for someone looking for focused role that is key to the success of our team Ideal candidate will establish and manage the day to day activities of the Metallurgical Test Laboratory. Work closely with Manufacturing Operations and Metallurgy in the planning and processing of material for inside and outside testing. Key responsibilities include:

Manage the daily running of the Metallurgical Test Laboratory and prioritize work and labor resources to achieve the required targets in a planned, executed approach.
Responsible for managing the cutting and sectioning of test material and parts to engineering drawings
Responsible for the evaluation and reporting of all metallurgical laboratory results

Essential Functions

Qualification and certification of metallurgical laboratory activities. Adherence and qualify to established laboratory accreditation bodies such as AS9100, NADCAP and customer requirements.
Liaise with Metallurgy and Quality in regards to metallurgical traceability, testing, and specifications.
Process enhancement of Test Laboratory processes.
Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of Managers, Supervisors, Group Leaders, Safety/Environmental Manager, or Director of Human Resources.
Follow daily Procedures and Protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings.
Authorized to train procedures and techniques to operators, technicians and coworkers as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Ability to work within established polices and rules.
Ability to work with fellow plant employees; Have good people skills. Have contact with all plant employees and senior management.
Ability to see opportunities for improvement and cost reduction in the daily operations.
Ability to communicate, plan, and implement all of the test laboratory related functions.

Physical Work Activities and Exposure

Work is typically performed inside, but some outside work may be required in external weather conditions, including rain and heat.
Minor to moderate lifting.
Forklift operation may be required. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

B.S. in Metallurgy and/or Material Science preferred but not essential
5 year experience in working in a test laboratory environment
Basic knowledge of mechanical testing of steel, Ti and Ni based alloys.
Previous supervisory experience preferred
