Job Summary:

Teledyne Marine Systems is a member of a group of leading-edge undersea technology companies that have been assembled under the Teledyne Marine umbrella. Teledyne Marine Systems is seeking an Advanced Profiling Explorer (APEX) Float Applications Engineer to help solve technical issues, provide customer support, provide customer training and demonstrations, and work with customers to create custom solutions using Teledyne products. The Applications Engineer will act as a conduit between the Customer, Product Line Manager, and the Teledyne Engineering Department. Applicants must be willing to travel internationally and work on seagoing vessels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Responsible for assisting with APEX float customer service and support
    • Answering technical inquiries from customers via website, email, text, phone, etc.
    • Travel to customer sites for testing and service and support as required
    • Assist with Failure Review Boards (FRB) to identify and resolve customer issues Assist with float Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) and Customer Repair Orders (CROs)
    • Work with service and repair department to ensure customer repairs are completed on time and budget
  • Production and manufacturing support for standard and custom builds
    • Work with APEX customers to fully document customer requirements and hardware / software configurations prior to manufacturing
    • Assist production with manufacturing issues and questions as required
    • Assist with factory testing and acceptance, document and distribute test results
  • Sales and Marketing Support
    • Assist with product quoting including non-standard (engineering special) float configurations
    • Work with engineering to properly assess, design, and scope desired product modifications, sensor integrations, etc. for quoting and internal project approvals
    • Attend tradeshows and science meetings to advise on future of product enhancements / improvements
    • Present technical papers and talks
    • Gather customer interest and write application notes (use cases)
Qualifications/Requirements

Education/Experience
  • BS in Science or Technical degree required
  • Detailed knowledge of physical oceanography and inner workings of ocean currents and modeling
  • Experience working with ocean sensing hardware systems such as Conductivity Temperature and Depth sensors; specifically an understanding of function, ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues
  • Minimum 5 years' experience showing ability to diagnose, mechanical, electrical and software issues and provide solutions on complex systems
  • Ability to creatively solve customer problems and design solutions based on customer needs
  • Previous hands-on experience designing, analyzing, and or repairing electro-mechanical systems
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to travel a minimum of 25% of the time, international and domestic
  • Due to the type of work at the facility and certain access restrictions, successful applicants must be a "US Person" (US Citizens, US Nationals, lawful permanent residents, asylees or refugees)
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products is essential: Excel, Word and Power Point
Preferred:
  • MS or PhD Science or Technical degree desired
  • Experience with US Navy / Government customers / contracts strongly preferred
  • Candidates must possess, or be able to obtain, a security clearance
  • Previous experience in technical sales and customer service
  • Previous experience using Salesforce or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool
  • Previous seagoing experience on large vessels desired
  • Small boat experience desired
