Job Summary:

We are looking for a motivated innovative engineer to help drive new technology advancement at Caterpillar. Caterpillar's focus on industry leadership in electrification, autonomy, and automation creates continuing new career opportunities within our team. Specifically, we have an opening for a Design Engineer in our product development excellence organization (Team@Excellence) to lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) with our product development teams.

What You Will Do:

•Lead and deliver key elements of APQP: including, but not limited to: Requirements Management, Boundary Diagram, Interface Analysis,

Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification Plans & Report (DVP&R),

Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Process Control Plan. Similar experience with related processes, such as IPDS,

can substitute.

•Work with design teams to develop product architecture definition through boundary diagrams

•Develop and deliver level-appropriate requirements with linkage to levels above and below in product hierarchy

•Deliver a comprehensive list of recommended design and process actions, special process controls, and validation activities to mitigate high-

risk areas.

•Contribute to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes.

•Perform complex analysis work to identify design/process risk and develop mitigation plans.

•Work directly with different organizations within Caterpillar, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams. This requires the ability to communicate

technical information in a concise and accurate manner.

Success factors include demonstrating excellent analytical skills and a mastery of engineering concepts. Engineers must manage their professional development by continuously learning through experiences and staying abreast of new technologies. Key skills to be developed at this level are failure prediction and management, technology time/cost analysis, spatial design, conceptual design, practical application of theory, knowledge of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, and communication skills.

Education Requirement:

•Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

•Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues.
•Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions.
•Coaches others in promoting, defining, analyzing, and providing superior technical solutions to business problems.
•Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.
•Assumes accountability for personal technical performance and holds others responsible for theirs.

Additional Information

The primary location for this position is Tucson, AZ with an additional location in Mossville, IL.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position will require less than 10% travel.
