Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an experienced OSP Designer for our Utility Design Engineering group in Fort Myers, FL. The UDE team works with industry-leading internet service providers across the United States to provide network engineering services.
The OSP designer will be responsible for planning, designing, documenting and permitting proposed new outside plant backbone, middle mile FTTx, Passive Optical Network (PON, G-PON, XGS-PON), Centralized and Distributed Split Architecture and BAU build-outs.
Responsibilities
Conduct fielding tasks (Engineering Design Notetaking, pole data collection, etc.) without supervision.
Gather field data for railroad, waterway crossings and controlled access permits.
Utilize field data for design.
Demonstrate understanding of applicable building codes, design codes (NEC, NESC, etc.).
Review jurisdiction documentation and field data to determine design within Right-Of-Way (i.e., wetlands, floodplains, highlands, pinelands, CAFRA, etc.).
Exhibit understanding of Telecom, Fiber - Outside Plant (OSP) design (FTTx, MDU, wiring diagrams, splicing schematics, equipment types, etc.) and design FTTx.
Network Proficient in OSP route designs and simple modification designs.
Design/draft construction and permit drawings with minimal guidance.
Design Fiber-Optic network (FTTx) using ArcGIS software, or client designated software, with minimal supervision.
Supervise and review production of specialty drawings (i.e., Utility Company submittals, Railroads, Interstate crossings, landmark designs, etc.).
Determine efficient and cost effective path (aerial vs. underground) and construction methods (Bore, Plow, Trench, Micro-trench) for fiber optic cable.
Conduct QC review of Junior OSP Designer work product including constructability review.
Complete final QC of permit packages before submittal.
Prepare technical correspondence.
Create Bill of Materials.
Assist Project Manager in preparing Project proposals, including scope of work, fees and schedules.
Assist Project Manager with client management including project status updates, submittals and approvals.
Act as a seller/doer and actively participate in business development and marketing.
Engages in industry events and organizations as requested.
Assist Project Manager with tracking project, submittal and approval status.
Assist Project Manager with project proposals including fees and schedule.
Assist Project Manager with coordination of in-house professionals and sub consultants to complete all aspects of project design.
Basic understanding of project finances.
Develop and maintain effective professional relationships.
Qualifications
5+ years' experience in linear utility engineering and design, experience in fiber-optic/coaxial OSP experience not required but preferred.
Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or related engineering degree not required but preferred.
EIT license not required but preferred.
Proficiency in ArcGIS, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, or similar software packages with the ability to design projects through completion.
Proficiency with Vetro and IQGeo is preferred.
Knowledge of local city, county, and state and utility permitting regulations preferred.
Qualified candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Must be willing to travel.
Drivers license is required.
Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
