The Center for Third World Organizing is a racial justice organization dedicated to building social justice movements led by people of color. We were established in 1980 as a training and resource center that promotes and sustains direct-action organizing in communities of color in the United States.

We believe in creating a pipeline of organizers that are equipped with both the fundamentals of organizing as well as new, innovative and creative tactics & strategies. We believe that those historically marginalized should lead this fight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position is full-time (32 hours per week), exempt, fully benefits-eligible, reports to the Executive Director, and is paid an annual salary between $85,000-$95,000.

The Director of Operations and Culture ensures operational efficiency, compliance, and a strong organizational culture while fostering an effective and supportive work environment. Partnering with the Executive Director and the Leadership Team, the Director will provide leadership, management, planning, and enhancement of internal organizational systems, processes, policies, and infrastructure. This role oversees operational processes, including fiscal sponsorship, compliance, benefits, and organizational performance, as well as leading staff engagement and culture initiatives.
Organizational Culture & Staff Engagement
  • Performance Management: Develop and oversee staff evaluation processes, ensuring performance benchmarks align with strategic goals.
  • Benefits & HR Policy Oversight: Develop benefits strategy, oversee vendor relationships, and ensure compliance with employment laws.
  • Staff Culture & Engagement: Lead efforts to foster an inclusive and supportive work environment, including engagement surveys and feedback mechanisms.
  • Team Building & Retreat Planning: Oversee planning and execution of team-building activities, retreats, and internal events.
  • Onboarding & Hiring Strategy: Develop hiring policies, ensure equitable recruitment processes, and oversee onboarding initiatives.
  • Conflict Resolution & Mediation: Lead conflict resolution efforts, ensuring clear processes for handling workplace grievances.
  • Political Education & Organizational Development: Collaborate with leadership to implement initiatives supporting political education and movement building.
Operations & Compliance
  • Project Management & Systems: Define and monitor project tracking systems (e.g., Asana) to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Fiscal Sponsorship: Serve as a secondary contact for fiscally sponsored projects, attend quarterly meetings, and assess new sponsorship opportunities.
  • Compliance & Audit Oversight: Ensure all operational compliance requirements, including audits, tax filings, and reporting, are met.
Financial Management Support
  • Budgeting & Resource Allocation: Assist in annual budget planning and ensure alignment with operational needs.
  • Financial Operations Management: Approve wire transfers, oversee reimbursement processes, and monitor financial reporting.
  • Financial Oversight: Work with Pocketbook, WHF, and the Leadership Team to ensure operational strategies align with organizational priorities.
Required Experience:
  • 7+ years of experience in operations, nonprofit management, or HR.
  • 5+ years of supervision experience
  • Strong project management skills with experience overseeing compliance and financial processes.
  • Leadership experience in managing operational systems and staff culture initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Asana (or other project management tools) and HR systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while maintaining a strategic oversight role
Knowledge and Skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of persons.
  • Excellent oral and written communications and organizational skills are required. Must be able to travel as deemed necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote work environment.
  • Flexible and nimble, able to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • A deep love for the communities we are fighting with
COMPENSATION

CTWO offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive, progressive benefits program to attract, retain, and motivate a high-performing and dedicated workforce. The salary range for this position is full-time $85,000-$95,000 a year. This is a 32-hours per week position.
