This role will be part of a team that is collaborative and has a leader who gives you the freedom to do your role This position will underwrite business in accordance with the business plan and within delegated underwriting authority with the purpose of underwriting a profitable account on behalf of Aspen Re in Bermuda. This work will be done while making sure Aspen Values are demonstrated in the delivery and performance. Key Accountabilities Contribute to the development of the business plan for the portfolio and ensure delivery of the plan. Awareness of and contribution to the delivery of the business plan, making decisions as appropriate. Contribute and participate in all meetings, in order to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice. Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximize brand leverage. Apply the reinsurance strategy in order to safeguard the portfolio. Perform complex underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met. Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency in compliance with Aspen Underwriting Principles. Ensure the recording and measurement of risks, including appropriate pricing based on Aspen Actuarial Principles. Review contract wording to ensure compliance with best practices. Apply any reinsurance requirements to minimise risk and to deliver business plan objectives. Act as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities within area of expertise. Establish, develop and strengthen relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximize influence and achieve business objectives. Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to drive and enhance business performance. Proactively engage with Reserving with regard to portfolio management and trends. Proactively engage with Exposure Management in respect of data capture, clash and other MI initiatives. Collaborate with other global Casualty teams with respect to sharing of information, trends and portfolio management. Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through identifying and implementing appropriate learning and development activities. Underwriting complex reinsurance risks in accordance with the business plan to meet business objectives. This includes negotiating rates, terms and conditions for existing and new business (developing or modifying policy wordings as appropriate), ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and guidelines, ensuring contribution to the business plan and objectives, and support credit control in payment collection. Contribute and influence in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress towards business objectives. Ensure all business is thoroughly evaluated by peer review and that risks written adhere to the Company’s underwriting standards and individual authority. Contribute towards operational efficiency and involvement in other Cas Re related projects. Manage, support and/or develop colleagues within department to ensure the required standards of performance are met and facilitates the continuing of their personal and professional development, including acting as a mentor. Manage and/or support with recruitment and performance management where required to effectively manage resources within the department. Establish clear accountabilities and authority levels for direct reports, if applicable, and build a strong culture of accountability and performance in order to ensure delivery of goals. Operate collaboratively with colleagues in team so as to support the achievement of business goals. Act in accordance with, and is an advocate of, the Aspen Values. Skills & Experience In depth experience of working in underwriting with Casualty Treaty (10 years of experience preferred). Professional qualifications such as ARM, ASCII and or some Actuarial exams. Treaty Underwriting Experience is needed. Experience with writing Casualty (more than one line is preferred). Experienced in the use of risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models. Experience of managing underwriting individuals/teams. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Manage conflicting priorities to achieve deadlines. Able to plan effectively and efficiently and strong attention to detail. Ability to collaborate effectively in team environment. Strong level of numeracy and literacy skills. Ability to engage and positively influence colleagues. Qualified within own professional discipline, with significant post-qualification work experience within class of business (MBA or other post graduate degrees).
