This position requires expertise in neonatal respiratory care, advanced equipment operation, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Respiratory Assessment: Perform thorough assessments of neonatal patients' respiratory status, including monitoring vital signs, evaluating lung function, and assessing oxygenation levels.
  2. Ventilation Support: Set up and manage mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilation devices for neonatal patients, adjusting settings as needed to optimize respiratory function.
  3. Surfactant Administration: Administer surfactant therapy to premature infants as prescribed by physicians.
  4. Neonatal Resuscitation: Participate in neonatal resuscitation efforts and provide airway management during high-risk deliveries.
  5. Medication Administration: Administer respiratory medications and therapies, such as bronchodilators and inhaled medications, following established protocols.
  6. Collaborative Care: Collaborate closely with NICU nurses, neonatologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for neonatal patients.
  7. Patient Education: Educate parents and caregivers on neonatal respiratory care techniques, equipment, and home care instructions.
  8. Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and quality assurance standards in all respiratory therapy procedures.
  9. Documentation: Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, documenting all assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  10. Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations in the NICU, providing immediate respiratory support and assistance as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Neonatal-Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification preferred.
  • BLS and NRP certifications required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in neonatal respiratory therapy.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting neonatal respiratory equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
