Anticipated Closing Date: 12/27/2024

Position Salary Range: $ 70465.85/year - $ 89264.03/ year
Starting Pay: Although our full pay range is included above, the budgeted hiring range for this position is $70465.85/ year - $79864.94/ year

Full-time, Exempt

Schedule: Full Time, ~37.5 hours/ week
Monday- Friday, 9am-5pm

The Objective: You will develop, implement, and manage a statewide outreach and advocacy plan, as well as organize and coordinate strategic outreach and political efforts to advance legislative and electoral campaigns. You will also be responsible for the development and execution of public affairs events including legislative conferences, lobby days, fundraisers, and candidate workshops. You will work in collaboration with the Public Affairs team to develop plans, define targets, and identify resources needed for the promotion of PPRM's public policy agenda, and you will coordinate with the broader External Affairs department to identify areas of overlap where we can lift-up each other's work. You will manage organizing staff to create and execute statewide campus and activist organizing plans.

Success: You will know you are successful when you lead your team in efforts that positively impact policy and/or public sentiment on reproductive health, rights, and justice issues.

Snapshot: Your days will be a mix of in person and remote work. You will focus on coalition-building, hiring and training organizers, managing and developing your team of organizers, planning Public Affairs events, and creating and managing activist outreach plans. You will travel within our four-state affiliate region several times a year. You will manage your work hours to include some evenings and weekends. You will champion the work of incorporating inclusivity into PPRM's Public Affairs work.

Although we are a health care provider and not a Reproductive Justice organization, we support and ally ourselves with our partners in the Reproductive Justice movement. Reproductive Justice is intersectional, and includes immigration work, LGBTQ+ justice, and black liberation. We are an intersectional organization and support our partners, so you should expect your work to be intersectional as well.

Qualifications: You have 3-5 years of relevant experience that demonstrates excellent strategic, analytical, and persuasive communication skills. You can demonstrate knowledge of legislative, regulatory, and electoral processes. You have campaign organizing skills and experience managing data. You have an understanding of the importance of intersectionality in organizing and approach your work through a racial equity and inclusion lens. You have a proven track record of meeting deadlines and showing progress towards goals. You have experience managing staff and/or volunteers. You can use video conferencing software like Zoom, and Microsoft Office programs to communicate remotely with teams and track data and goals. Experience in public speaking and bilingual in Spanish/English are preferred.

Key Approaches to the Work:

  • Communication
  • Strategic
  • Strong execution orientation
  • Inclusion and Equity Champion

Primary Areas of Responsibility/Essential Functions:
Serving as a leader and member of the Public Affairs Team: You are a leader, strategically engaging team members and jumping in proactively as an individual to add to the effectiveness of our advocacy work. You are an engaged team player and are adept at collaborating across levels, both internally and externally. To do this, you will:
•Serve as member of PPRM Public Affairs team; responsible for developing and implementing state and federal advocacy activities to be included in PPRM's Public Affairs strategic plan.
•Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the Public Affairs budget.
•Provide personnel management, development, and supervision for field staff including hiring, defining job objectives and skill set requirements, training, performance management, development, and recognition.
•Champion the work of incorporating inclusivity into PPRM's Public Affairs work and the work of the entire External Affairs department.
Directing Policy and Political Advocacy Work: You participate in the development and implementation of department strategic plans and have a key role in determining how to pair action in alignment with aims, specifically around our policy and legislative goals. You have an eye toward organization that allows you to track and prioritize work and assets accordingly. To do this, you will:
•Work to develop statewide policy, political, and advocacy events and opportunities to increase PPRM's capacity throughout the state.
•Identify key legislative and electoral targets and develop and implement strategic grassroots activities to advance PPRM's objectives in these areas.
•Work with staff, interns, volunteers, and others as needed in developing plans and identifying resources needed for legislative, electoral, and issue campaigns.
•Develop, organize, and implement lobby days, advocacy events, and other opportunities for recruiting and demonstrating grassroots support.
•Coordinate with the Media Relations staff to ensure events and activists are appropriately covered by the media and that PPRM's messaging is consistent to all media outlets.
•Participate in the development of issue briefings, materials, and other resources to prepare staff and volunteers when visiting legislators and other key decision-makers.
•Recruit, develop, and activate political activists around federal and state legislative and electoral action.
•Develop and implement specifically tailored organizing strategies as necessary for targeted areas of the state and/or region.
•Oversee the development, enhancement, and maintenance of distinct activist membership for both the 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations. Recommend appropriate activities for each organization.
•Provide support to existing campus groups programs and assist in the establishment of new programs in colleges and universities within the state and/or region.

Building and Strengthening Coalitions: You communicate with crowds and individuals with a style that easily builds rapport and calls others to action. You speak passionately and with an informed voice to encourage others to take up the mantle of the mission we serve and then coordinate their skills and abilities to the roles where we need them. You can effectively hold relationships on behalf of the organization, in ways that build trust and cross lines of difference. To do this, you will:
•Identify opportunities for coalition building and participate in coalitions and partnerships to further the public policy goals of PPRM.
•Plan, prepare for, and actively participate in coalitions. Effectively navigate the intersectionality in coalition work, knowing when to lead, when to listen, ensuring our coalition work is intentional and not transactional.
•Coordinate campaigns with these organizations to deliver consistent messaging statewide
