The Business Advisor Small Business Development Center shall be responsible to the Director of Small Business Development Center.
Provides advisement, research, and technical assistance to Small Business Development Center (SBDC) clients; oversees one-on-one counseling sessions to assess client needs and expectations; provides clients with the required technical assistance.
Provides services in the areas of feasibility assessment, business management, business plan development, financial analysis, financial projection, human resources, marketing, and accounting.
Advisors must have comprehensive knowledge and experience of small business operations from every sector of the local business community and provide a full range of business services
Advisors must understand the clients situation, analyze the problems and guide the client in developing a solution he or she is willing and able to implement.
Peer collaboration is valued within the New Mexico SBDC Network and advisors often share their expertise in response to queries from other advisors. Advisors must develop and maintain a referral network within their local service areas to ensure they maintain a robust client caseload capable of delivering significant economic impacts to the local community and the state.
Maintains client files and resources; oversees the timely reporting of each counseling record and time devoted to the clients through the SBDC management information system.
Develops, promotes, and conducts workshops and seminars to meet the business needs of the community; manages marketing, website maintenance, coordination and preparation as well as SBA reporting for all workshops.
Participates in advocating SBDC through committees, chambers of commerce and other community involvement.
Advisors constantly seek professional development opportunities to expand their core competencies and stays abreast of industry trends, current events, and customers needs in the regional economic environment in all areas of business, including technology, necessary to start, grow, sustain and transition a small business.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
Bachelors degree in a Business Administration or related field and equivalent experience in business management; or equivalent experience in financial analysis required
Strong understanding of financial statements, experience in establishing economic development, community and business relationships; experience in advising small businesses; experience delivering business presentations on a variety of topics in a public setting to diverse audiences; program and/or product development experience; and/or work experience with manufacturing and/or technology.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with staff, faculty, students, College officials, clients, government agency(s), business resources, trade/civic associations and the general public.

Computer skills with working knowledge of various software packages are necessary.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in entrepreneurship, business management, consultation, and seminar coordination; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of College and department policies and procedures
Knowledge of the principles and practices of business consulting.
Loan packaging and underwriting experience.
Skill in financial management.
Skill in developing and implementing business plans.
Skill in written and oral communications.
Ability to proficiently operate a personal computer and standard office equipment.
Ability to provide sound business advice in accordance with client needs.
