About the internship

W. W. Norton is looking for an intern to participate in our twelve-week internship program. Our internship program provides participants with an engaging, supportive, and hands-on learning experience in publishing that includes educational lunch sessions and networking within the intern class. Your work if you become a Norton intern with the Political Science editorial team may include the following:
  • Reviewing textbook chapter proofs during different stages of production for style consistency for college political science textbooks such as American Government: Power and Purpose (18e) and American Government: A Brief Introduction (18e)
  • Tracking election updates for introduction to American government titles like American Politics Today: Election Update (8e) and We The People (15e)
  • Prepping text manuscripts, art manuscripts, and art logs for copyediting and author revision for Essentials of International Relations (10e)and World Politics (6e)
  • Reviewing manuscripts and copyedited versions of digital products such as Lecture PowerPoints, Instructor's Manuals, Test Banks, and InQuizitive, Norton's adaptive quizzing tool, for We The People (15e) and Governing Texas (7e)
  • Ensuring eBook content and design aligns with the print book as well as the functionality of eBook specific features such as interactivity
  • Researching data for figures and tables as well as finding photos for American government textbooks
  • Creating, formatting, and editing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, etc. files to begin, work on, and complete projects and office duties

  • Prior coursework/ a major/minor in the social sciences is a plus, but not required.
  • You are a college junior, senior, recent graduate, or someone looking to make a career change.
  • You are eager to improve your verbal and written communication skills.
  • You are detail-oriented, organized, and flexible in your work approach.
  • You enjoy collaborating and working in a group to solve challenges.
  • You have a passion for learning and ideas.
  • You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Internship details
  • Interns are paid $16 per hour, subject to applicable law, and work a maximum of 20 hours weekly.
  • Internship period is twelve weeks from 9/23/2024 (Monday) to 12/13/2024 (Friday).
  • Our workday is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time; specific work hours are flexible to accommodate an intern's schedule.
  • For interns who reside within commuting distance of the office, this internship will be in-person in our Manhattan offices; those in other locations will work remotely.
  • Eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
