Title: Marketing Manager
Job Description:
The Marketing Manager works with key conference volunteers and staff members to direct all marketing functions, leads all activities, planning, and projects within the marketing department.
The Marketing Manager is responsible for creating the annual marketing plan and budget, which must also consider a long-term strategic approach. The Marketing Manager directs the marketing departments functions with the objective of increasing participation furthering our brand, identifying and engaging new audiences, and seeking new opportunities for organizational advancement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs, oversees, and determines the strategic direction of the marketing function
- Researches and creates the annual marketing plan and oversees and manages the annual marketing budget
- Manages all marketing vendors, negotiating contracts, creating deliverable timelines, working to ensure products are delivered properly and timely, and liaising directly for content and design
- Works with Web & Multimedia Manager on written website content
- Liaises directly with Conference, Exposition, and any other departments to plan and execute promotional activities
- Manages all work requests submitted by committee and staff for marketing, website, and audio/visual
- Conduct weekly marketing meetings
- Creates and conducts surveys and calculates results
- Leads annual advertising concept creation and finalization
- Directs and approves all budgetary expenditures with Director of Operations and Presidents Council
- Writes all articles for partner/barter or other needs
- Writes and distributes all press releases
- Writes all speeches given during Conference Week, including but not limited to the Welcome Reception and the Annual Party
- Interacts directly with members of the media
- Prepares and is the primary presenter (the current President is the primary guest presenter along with, when required, secondary guest presenters) of the annual Pittcon Press Conference
- Creates and directs all digital advertising including all geofencing, keyword, and retargeting campaigns
- Creates and directs all print pieces including all print-mail advertising
- Creates and directs all additional advertising expenses including but not limited to publication ads and third-party email advertising
- Discusses with committee and fellow staff, organizes, plans, creates, and executes all miscellaneous promotional campaigns
- Manages and organizes all lists and list purchases
- Interacts directly with host city visitors bureau to determine strategic direction and local market targeting, and to collect relevant lists
- Presents at committee and staff meetings as the representative of the marketing function
- Addresses all special project requests such as Conference Week signage needs, Science Week website and promotional materials, Society promotional materials, and any and all editing requests made by committee or fellow staff members etc.
- Conceptualize and execute multi-channel communications
- Measure and report on performance of marketing campaigns
- Analyze consumer behavior and market trends
- Work with Client Relations and Acquisition Manager and Exposition Manager on sponsorship program planning, management, and execution
- Partnership program direction and oversight
- Acts as a marketing advisor to the two scientific societies that support Pittcon

Experience & Qualifications:
- A bachelors degree in marketing, communications, public relations, writing, or a related field
- Approximately 7-10 years of relevant marketing experience with proven leadership role(s)/potential preferred
- Experience managing a budget, creating and implementing marketing plans, negotiating contracts, and managing vendors
- Experience executing promotional marketing print, digital, media, social, etc...
- Experience presenting and speaking in front of crowds and camera
- Experience with standard office, design, and data software

- Annual planning meetings, including annual strategic planning retreat
- 2 3 annual tradeshows
