Description

General Function: The Aquatic Coordinator, under the supervision of the Sr. Aquatic Director is responsible for maintaining the progress of the established aquatic programs and aquatic staff. Also helps to act as a communication link between lower level staff and the Sr. Aquatic Director. Time is also spent lifeguarding when needed.

General Schedule is Sunday through Thursday. Sunday's 9:30am-6pm and Monday-Thursday 10am-6:30pm.

Required to attend monthly in-service on Sunday evenings from 6pm-8pm.

Know How: A 2 years aquatic background is preferred with current lifeguard certifications. This position also requires experience managing a group of people, strong organizational and leadership skills that lead to the successful accomplishment of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below. A person filling this position must demonstrate strong initiative, creativity, and flexibility and be able to operate and promote an environment that promotes the YMCA mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Scheduling and Supervising
  • Monitoring lifeguards
  • Monitor scheduled shifts, subs and shift changes and fill in as needed
  • Be responsible for staff rotation schedules and down duties
  • Complete daily supervisor shift reports as well as random aquatic quick checks and skill audits
  • Monitor and ensure all aquatic staff, members and guests are enforcing and following all rules
Programming
  • Facilitate swim testing processes for members, camp and other programs
Facility
  • Assist with upkeep of facilities and program equipment in conjunction with the Maintenance Department and Aquatic Director.
  • Responsible for overall cleanliness and sanitation of pool area
  • Test water chemistry as required to comply with state and local health codes and YMCA procedures
  • Includes following all procedures for clean up, completion of required reports and member communication
  • Assist with the set up and tear down of the outdoor pool (seasonal)
Service and Administration
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Assist the collection and storage of certifications and reports essential for evaluation and reporting
  • Serves as an effective member of the YMCA of Central Kentucky staff team, providing assistance in YMCA activities as directed
  • Models the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and provides/maintains an environment in which these values are evident to staff, members and program participants through all levels of the association
  • Exhibit pride and ownership by being a role model for staff and members on and off the clock
  • Perform general office duties (answering phones, copying, preparing for classes, etc.)
  • Be available to all members, guests and staff with questions or concerns
  • Daily rounds on the pool deck are also required to ensure quality and customer service

Special Skill Requirements:

Must posses the skills to operate standard office and aquatic equipment. Must be able to perform basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages and ratios. Must be able to read and interpret documents. Must possess and demonstrate strong organizational skills. Must possess highly effective oral and written communication skills and be able to respond effectively to most sensitive inquiries and complaints. Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Must have initiative and discriminating judgment.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

May be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds in the form of supplies or equipment. May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Exhibit manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard and other related office equipment. Receives and follows general instructions. Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment while remaining professional and exhibiting an upbeat attitude. Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone, computer or in person.
