They lead the development of subsystems in larger design efforts or the complete electrical system development in smaller projects. They provide technical direction to junior engineers, designers, and drafters. Provides engineering support to internal and external customers and performs other tasks as assigned.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Functional & Technical SkillsTranslate requirements into a system architecture and detailed design.Design and integrate industrial automation and control systems including PLC controls, motor controls, and general machine controls.Determine feasibility of modifying existing or designing new equipment considering costs, time limitations, and other technical and economic factors.Validate designs through analysis and testingOperational ExcellenceCoordinate own design efforts as well as other engineers and designers to meet production schedules and provide project task estimates and updates to project team.BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES: Problem SolvingPlanning and OrganizingValues BasedREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education: BS in Electrical EngineeringExperience: 3+ years experience in developing and maintaining electromechanical system designs.Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and maintain railroad safety training and credentialsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Working knowledge of business software including MS Office suite.Develop detailed schematics and design documentation specifications and drawingsCollaborate with others to clarify requirements and develop solutions.Lead design reviews consisting of multi-disciplined and cross functional team members.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education: MS in Electrical EngineeringExperience: 3+ years experience in the following:480VAC power generation and distributionEngine/generator controlsIndustrial automation and controls systemsMachine PLC and HMI Controls programmingElectrical traction systems (DC & AC)Motor controls and variable speed drivesDirecting individual engineers or designersLicenses/Certifications: Engineer in Training (EIT) CertificateKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge in Autodesk Electrical and ERP softwareKnowledge in Rockwell Automation softwareWORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.
