Assistant Collections Manager – Lubbock Lake Landmark

Assistant Collections Manager – Lubbock Lake Landmark Museum of Texas Tech University Pay:

$14.42-$14.71 per hour The Museum of Texas Tech University invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Collections Manager for the Lubbock Lake Landmark. The Museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, with active collecting, exhibition, and education programs. The Landmark is a satellite facility of the Museum and located ~2.5miles north of the main Museum complex. This appointment is an active, hands-on position involving the care and management of collections generated by an active regional field research program and processed at the Quaternary Research Center (QRC) at the Lubbock Lake Landmark (LLL). The Assistant Collections Manager is expected to be knowledgeable in accreditation standards, the ethics, legal issues, and best practices in governing collections, and understand the importance of provenience and provenance. The Assistant Collections Manager – Lubbock Lake Landmark reports to the Director – Lubbock Lake Landmark. Among the Assistant Collections Manager’s responsibilities are the following: Collections Stewardship Accessions Coordinate with the Museum’s Collections Manager – Anthropology and the Museum Registrar on information flow Prepare accessions inventory for each incoming field-generated collection Collections Implement Museum and QRC collections policies and procedures Provide basic collections management, including cataloging, inventorying, and barcoding of all collections, as well as collections troubleshooting Maintain preventive conservation measures Maintain curatorial electronic databases Transfer completed collections to the Anthropology Division of the Museum of Texas Tech University Loans Assess collections regarding loan rigors Assist with all LLL Director-approved loans Complete condition reports and loan inventories Facilities Assist with environmental monitoring of the QRC and maintain the records Maintain QRC infestation reports Other Duties Coordinate with the Museum’s Collections Manager – Anthropology Coordinate with the regional research Field Manager and field crew chiefs Supervise undergraduate and graduate student assistants and volunteers Provide data-management for scholarly reports and research publications Other duties as assigned Required Skills and abilities Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Knowledge of database management, specifically with FileMaker Pro Knowledge of barcode systems – implementation, use, and trouble-shooting, specifically with FileMaker Pro and Barcodet Excellent project management, supervisory, and decision-making skills Excellent interpersonal skills Proven experience using best practices in collections management Experience working with field-generated collections and accompanying documentation Commitment to a team approach Master’s degree in Museum Science or Museum Studies and 2 years experience in a curatorial/collections management position required. Preference will be for applicants who have relevant experience with archaeological collections, particularly US Southern Plains collections.
