Plant Performance and Reliability Engineer

This position will be filled at the Engineer III or IV level. The level of selected candidate will be dependent on the qualifications, experience, education, and certification level of the successful candidate.

As a Plant Performance and Reliability Engineer, you will have the opportunity to support the execution of our Performance Monitoring and Testing Program with the goal of providing actionable insights on addressing performance and reliability issues for our electric, water, wastewater and natural gas operating systems and assets.

In this job, you will plan, execute, and direct critical tests to ensure plant and process reliability and efficient operation across our four-service utility, as well as develop and monitor key performance indicators for systems and components within our system, therefore a strong understanding of mechanical equipment operation and maintenance is critical. You will also facilitate root-cause analysis of system and equipment failures and performance deviations to identify corrective actions needed to optimize the long-term operation of our systems and assets through developing and performing monitoring and reporting efforts using advanced analytics, including advanced pattern recognition technologies and other operational data analysis tools.

A day in the life of a Reliability and Performance Engineer may include:
  • Performing analyses and reviews of unit, system and component conditions, technical drawings, cost, specification design, and feasibility
  • Performing regular equipment performance and reliability monitoring tasks in compliance with facility monitoring plan requirements and frequencies (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)
  • Developing, modifying, configuring, and utilizing new or existing performance analysis tools and models; both 3rd party software packages and built in-house
  • Coordinating and performing inspections and routine and special tests on assets, and participating in onsite audits
  • Managing the tracking, reporting, and resolution of performance and reliability issues found through data analysis
  • Provides technical guidance to other engineering employees, internal customers and/or contractors with regard to complex engineering designs
  • Performing root-cause analyses and investigations on failed and underperforming equipment and systems
  • Designing and managing engineering projects that support the Performance and Reliability Program, including developing budgets, estimating project costs, tracking changes, and monitoring schedules
  • Evaluating and monitoring outside consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure compliance with specifications, bid proposals, and obligations
  • Monitoring changes and trends in federal and state laws and regulations, and developing new procedures and programs based on new regulations
  • Facilitates meetings; works with customers and stakeholders. Serves as a CSU representative
  • Establishes work quality standards; reviews and re-engineers workflow to make it more efficient and effective
  • Assisting in the development of new procedures and processes based on monitoring, diagnostics, and operational needs
  • Developing, recommending, and implementing policies, procedures, processes, guidelines, and standards regarding engineering best practices and techniques
Who You Are
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering
  • Relevant and progressively responsible experience in an engineering discipline, preferably in a performance and reliability role
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
  • Knowledge of industrial processes and process equipment and their operation
  • Skill in data analytics, data management, and technical writing
  • Registration as a Fundamental Engineer or Professional Engineer is preferred
  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license is required for this role
