  1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a small or medium-sized department or program.
  2. Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence to budget.
  3. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
  4. May prepare or participate in the creation of abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
  5. Reviews reports of budgets and activities.
  6. Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
  7. May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships and other operations.
  8. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
  9. May serve as property custodian for the department.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

The University of Houston, Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts is seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to join our team as the Art Maker Space, you will be responsible for managing a state-of-the-art maker space, the Arts & Technology Center. This includes fostering an environment of creativity, collaboration, and innovation. A private studio space within the center.
  1. Maker Space Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the maker space, ensuring all tools, equipment, and materials are in good working condition and readily available for users.
  2. Technical Support: Provide expert guidance and technical assistance to students, faculty, and staff utilizing the maker space facilities for their creative projects.
  3. Workshop Facilitation: Organize and lead weekly workshops and training sessions on various creative technologies, such as 3D printing, laser cutting, Risograph printing, and other maker tools.
  4. Project Consultation: Assist students, staff and faculty in conceptualizing and planning their projects, offering insights into material selection, fabrication techniques, and best practices.
  5. Lab Monitor Management: Manage an exciting and dedicated group of 10-15 work-study students which include undergraduate and graduate students.
  6. Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and best practices within the maker space, ensuring a secure environment for all users.
  7. Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain all equipment, coordinating repairs and replacements as necessary.
  8. Art Supply Store Management: manage the ordering and purchasing of supplies from a small art supply store that supports the maker space.


Qualifications

Bachelors and No experience

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field, such as art, design, engineering, or a related discipline. Demonstrated experience in managing maker spaces, workshops, or similar creative environments.
  • Proficiency in using various maker technologies, including 3D printers, laser cutters, large plotter prints, Risograph printing, and design software.
  • Strong a detail-oriented professional with strong business management expertise to excel in spreadsheet analysis, budget maintenance, and record keeping for our organization.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and support a diverse community of makers.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a passion for inspiring innovation through hands-on projects. Knowledge of safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment. A collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary setting.
