About the Job The Senior Accountant has a thorough understanding of GAAP and experience with general ledger (GL), variance reports, preparation for external audit, banking activities, month/year-end closing duties and solid Excel and accounting software proficiency. Job Qualifications BS in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university preferred. 3-6 years of progressive accounting experience and responsibilities as it relates to the job responsibilities. Strong full cycle accounting and analytical skills required. Nonprofit organization experience highly desired. Public accounting audit experience a plus. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Knowledgeable in GAAP; 2 CFR part 200 Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards. Experience with MS Dynamics SL is a plus. Experience with federal funds, grants, and functional expense reporting as well as requirements for reportable charities. Experience in 990 prep helpful, 401(k) audit and compliance, and indirect cost reporting. Experience with allocation of costs and expenses to reportable units. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities Compiles and analyzes financial information and prepares general ledger entries. Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities and capital. Monitor restricted and unrestricted contributions and reconcile with fundraising department. Assist with accounting activities and reporting for non-profit organizations that the agency provides services for. Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position. Assist with banking activities such as setting up new accounts, banking fees, positive pay exceptions, adding new signatures, bank reconciliation items etc. Back-up month-end duties assigned to other accounting team members. Assists in preparation of monthly management reports and accompanying schedules, worksheets and narratives, including “Budget vs. Actual” variance reports. Assist in providing follow-up and documentation of significant variances. Assists with completion of the quarterly and annual bank compliance filings; preparation of assigned Quarterly and Annual Financial Statements. Assists with annual external financial audit and tax compliance. Conforms with and abides by all regulatory guidance and internal policies & procedures. Attention to Detail : Processes detailed information effectively and consistently; develops ideas thoroughly and meticulously into an effective plan of action; devises systems to monitor and control detailed information adequately; readily recognizes contradictions and trends in detailed information. Accountability : Takes ownership of one’s own actions and holds others to a high standard; communicates clearly to stakeholders when deadlines and agreements cannot be fulfilled; continues to work effectively while not losing sight of quality standards; keeps agreements made; takes personal responsibility for own actions, those of entire organization; is a role model for others in terms of reliability and integrity. Analyzing and Deciding : Generates sound options and makes rational decisions by thoroughly analyzing all aspects of a problem or issue. Planning and Organizing : Able to prioritize tasks in order to manage time and resources appropriately; asks for deadlines; utilizes software to monitor due dates; communicates clearly about work expectations and requests; looks ahead to what is required in the future. Independent Judgement/Problem Solving : Uses data to drive decision-making and translates operational goals into key performance indicators; does not hesitate or avoid making decisions; supports his/her judgement with general numbers and facts based on the organization’s performance as a whole; encourages others to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant aspects of a question at hand; defines criteria on which his/her conclusion is based.
