Our client a global leader in the building materials industry is offering an opportunity for an EHS Coordinator to join their team in their Tennessee Plant.
With a head count of 154 and reporting to an EHS Manager, this is an opportunity to hone your skills and add to your own tool box of experience.
Position Summary
Prevent occupational injuries and illnesses. Assure the site’s continued compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, corporate, sector, and plant safety and environmental regulations and rules.
Coordinate the development, administration, and implementation of safety policies, procedures, risk reduction and loss control programs at the facility. Provide plant-wide safety support for design, utilization and operational issues relating to the facility and the division-wide support relating to safety and environmental regulatory compliance.
Job Description
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Fire Prevention;
develop projects to address issues outlined by risk management engineers of the site’s loss insurance carrier
schedule fire/emergency response training to meet all regulatory standards
maintain fire brigade training and firefighting equipment maintenance records
work with insurance carriers during and after inspections and following up on inspection recommendations and action items
Assure all Federal, State, and mandated training is completed on a timely basis
Escorts regulatory compliance officers (such as the TN Department of Environment and Conservation) through the facility during annual compliance audits
Oversee safety orientation training for new employees while maintaining records of the same.
Helps coordinate maintenance and cleaning activities related to the continued operation of the mills environmental control equipment.
Tracks all safety training needed according to government regulations and corporate/sector guidelines and assures that proper documentation is completed.
Implement and audit EHS programs and policies ensuring compliance with governmental health and safety regulations including those from corporate and sector offices.
Gathers data, compiles and submits monthly metric reports accurately and timely.
Investigates any work-related injury, significant incident, near miss and first aid injury. Follow up with recommendations to limit the possibility of a repeat occurrence and prepare reports as needed.
Performs analysis on all accidents, significant incidents, fires, and first aid injuries in the Enablon online reporting and management system and helps develop corrective actions.
Develops and administers an annual safety management system review and action plan, highlighting goals and action steps to help reach stated goals.
Analyses current tasks seeking improvements in design of work areas leading to increased safety and productivity.
Coordinates employee health screenings and audiometric testing on an annual basis.
Develop, implement, maintain, and coordinate the facility emergency response plan.
Requirements & Preferred Competencies:
BS degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related Engineering field.
Eligible to pursue the Professional Engineer, and/or Certified Safety Professional and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist professional designation(s).
Experience with Environmental Protection Agency regulations (Title V of the clean air act, clean water act, waste storage and disposal regulations).
3 – 5 years of management experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Strong safety background.
Firefighting and OSHA training certifications a plus.
Basic statistical, data analysis and mathematics skill are required.
Strong focus on planning, employee relations, safety management, injury prevention and program development.
Strong work ethic with a hands-on approach to work and a willingness to learn.
Challenges –
· To be aware at all times of new regulations and hazards that apply to the facility.
· Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for any assigned EHS management system elements.
· To develop and maintain an organized record keeping system for all safety practices and training.
· To advise the Plant Manager, in a timely manner, of deficiencies regarding safety and environmental compliance and to recommend the appropriate actions to address the deficiencies.
· Be familiar with the function of production equipment and systems throughout the mill in order to support their safe and compliant operation.
· Motivate employees to internalize safety to the behavioral level and to accept responsibility for the safety of others.
· Meet the government and company mandated training and re-training schedule for all safety related issues.
· Maintain constant awareness of employee attitudes and morale and be prepared to address those issues that impact safety through training or other means.
· Effectively communicate, through supervisors and group presentations, changes or new programs in safety to all plant employees to ensure that these changes are understood and accepted. Be prepared to offer methods to ensure the uniform observance of these changes.
· Must be the driving force in achieving and maintaining OSHA Voluntary Protection Program status.
· Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and corporate environmental and safety regulations and permit issues (air, water, etc.).
