This will include designing both novel & derivative propulsion systems, executing design space trade studies, and assessing strengths / weaknesses of each concept to influence GE strategic focus areas, customer requirements & proposal evaluation criteria, and to help prioritize GE technology investments.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesIn the role of Preliminary Mechanical Design Engineer, you will integrate and develop propulsion concepts that meet business needs across the organization, support system level decisions for architecture designs, trade studies and contribute to the overall business strategy.Additionally, your responsibilities will include:Work with internal & external customers to create propulsion solutions for next generation of aircraft across a wide range of products, including rotorcraft, supersonic & hypersonic aircraft and other fixed-wing concepts.Support the cross-section development for preliminary design architecture studies, including weight, product cost, life cycle cost roll ups, or mechanical component sizing/layoutPartner with Preliminary Cycle Design engineers to ensure propulsion system feasibilityCoordinate with a cross-functional team of adjacent disciplines (aero, mechanical, systems, manufacturing) to assess technology capability & maturityCommunicate with leadership to help shape strategyExecute the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirementsEnsure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and proceduresProvide timely communications on significant issues or developmentsParticipate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and / or tasksParticipate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviewsQualifications/RequirementsBachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited University or College.More than 3 years post graduate work experience.ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT: Must have unrestricted access to work in the United States.Desired Characteristics Excited about propulsion and designing a jet engine from scratchPassionate about giving & receiving mentorshipAble to work both in a team and individuallyMaster's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university5-8 years of experience in an aerospace or mechanical engineering positionExperience with overall engine mechanical design, or component designExperience with Unigraphics, NX, or similarStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsAbility to guide and influence othersDemonstrated process orientation in approach to workExposure to both military and commercial engine design requirementsProblem analysis and resolution skillsSystems thinkingCurrent Secret US security clearanceThis role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
