We’re looking for a full-time Animal Intake Assistant Manager to join our open-admission, for-all animal shelter. Being a “for-all” shelter means that SPCA Tampa Bay will not limit admission or refuse to take in a pet. As part of the operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the intake department and play a key role in making a difference within our community. Job Summary: Counsel and facilitate the intake processes for strays, owner surrenders, and owner requested humane euthanasia. Oversee daily operations of the department, including scheduling, supervising staff, and providing guidance to the public. Responsibilities and Duties: Counsel and facilitate the intake process for all strays, owner surrenders, and owner requested euthanasia intakes. Offer advice and counseling to pet owners who are considering animal relinquishment and offer alternatives where appropriate. Collect detailed behavioral and medical background information from customers relinquishing their animals, in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures and State and County laws. Coordinate with the veterinary services department to determine appropriate outcomes for animals being brought into the shelter. Provide initial medical care, such as but not limited to, vaccinations, dewormers, and preventative. Schedule intake staff to ensure appropriate coverage. Provide friendly, responsive, and personalized customer service. Keep accurate and updated records and enter data as required into appropriate shelter software. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Participate in required meetings, trainings, and focused groups. Professionally represent SPCA Tampa Bay at all times. Qualifications: Three to five years of part-time or full-time general work experience preferred. One year of general staff supervision preferred. Valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to provide excellent service and care for customers and animals. Ability to exercise critical thinking in making decisions. Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion. Ability to operate computer, tablet, printer, copier, telephone, fax machine, and smartphone. Ability to work collaboratively and serve as an effective liaison with other departments. Effective oral and written communication skills. Integrity and ability to build trusting relationships. Possess knowledge of and experience with humane methods of care, restraint, and handling of all animals. Ability to use discretion in supervising, reviewing, or disciplining staff. Possess mature judgment and flexibility in handling a variety of situations. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Pet Point. Physical Demands: Occasional exposure to animal feces and potential for scratches and bites. Activities require the handling of SPCA pets of all species, sizes, and breeds. Carrying, pushing, and/or pulling with or without accommodations. Moderate physical effort – regularly lifting or moving up to 25 lbs. Occasionally up to 50 lbs. Occasional exposure to high noise levels, such as in dog kennels. Stooping, kneeling, bending, and crouching. Other: Ability to work flexible hours. Reliable transportation. Ability to pass required background checks. Certified euthanasia Technician preferred.
