Job Summary:This is a brief summary of overall assigned duties.Job Classification:Department ManagerJob Description:This person provides for an ongoing program of activities designed to meet, in accordance with the service plan, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.Personal Skills and Traits Desired:Good verbal and written communication skillsEvidence of effective problem resolution skillsAbility to maintain composure in stressful situationsResourcefulnessWillingness to consider the advice and opinion of othersAbility to make decisions and accept responsibility for the consequencesAbility to deal with difficult behaviorsAbility to coordinate and conduct meetingsAbility to be organized and efficientAbility to meet deadlinesBasic computer skillsAbility to act as a role model in conduct and appearanceResponsibility:Plans activity program to carry out the objectives of the facility as part of total resident careSchedule monthly Resident Council meetings and record all notes and give to the AdministratorCreate a monthly calendar of social events and activitiesPerform and record monthly resident weightsSupervision and protection of Residents during activities and compliance with safety regulations and policiesCoordinate the activities program with other services in the facilityRecruit, train, and supervise volunteers when appropriateEncourage resident participation in activitiesCare and use of supplies and equipmentPhysical Demands:Stands most of day, pushes, pulls, bends and liftsWorking Condition:Well-lighted and well ventilated roomsExposed to odors and personality peculiarities of the agedMay have to handle emotional disturbancesIs required to be on constant alert for possible injuries to residentsPersonal Specifications:Minimum education requirements include a high school diploma or its equivalent. Aptitude and some training in Arts and Crafts. Ability to plan and organize recreational activities. Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly. Must have an understanding of social, psychological and recreational needs of the elderly and must be able to plan and organize activities geared to these needs. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm while being able to handle residents based on whatever maturity level that they are currently functioning on
