Vehicle & Equipment TechnicianJob Announcement No: 25-035Vacant Position(s): 1Department: Safety & Support Services - Fleet Applications Accepted UNTIL POSITION IS FILLED.Salary Range: $48,110.40 ($23.13/hr.) - $72,155.20 ($34.69/hr.)Grade: 107Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pmPosition Summary: Under limited supervision of the Fleet Vehicle & Equipment Supervisor, performs routine preventive and predictive maintenance, diagnostics, and specialized repairs on all assigned gasoline and diesel-powered Fleet vehicles and equipment in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) recommendations. Essential Functions:Performs routine preventive and predictive maintenance for gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipmentPerforms diagnosis and repair of drivetrains for gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipmentPerforms diagnosis and repairs of support systems for gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to include electrical, fuel, braking, suspension, hydraulic, air conditioning, and automotive computer systemsPerforms field services for the purpose of diagnosis and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipmentDocuments daily work functions in Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other departments and department leaders, vendors, sales representatives, outside repair/service personnel, CWS Accident Review Board committee members, insurance company representatives, the public, etc.Responsible for the safe operation and cleanup of assigned work area, equipment and toolsSubject to 24-hour on-callMay be required to work during hazardous weather and/or emergency conditionsRegular attendance is required.Job performance must conform to all CWS Policies and Procedures.Specific knowledge of CWS Environmental Management System Policy and ProceduresAdditional DutiesPerform other related duties as assigned Minimum Requirements Physical Requirements, Activities, and Working ConditionsAbility to issue, receive and understand complex oral and written instructionsAbility to express and receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine distinction in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machine partsAbility to communicate verbal instructions quickly, loudly, and effectively in emergency situationsAbility to observe and comprehend computer screens and software to generate reports, specifications, memos, and lettersAbility to observe repairs and field work in progressSubject to noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level; hearing protection requiredOccasionally positions self to move, traverse and lift up to 25 lbs. to perform required work. Objects greater than 50 lbs. require a two-person operation.Ability to reach, pull, handle documents, tools and equipment as required to perform routine tasksAbility to work independently of othersUsing upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outwardAbility to operate and maintain motor vehiclesSubject to vibrations; exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities of whole bodyMust be able to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to perform the required essential functionsEducation and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED with at least two (2) years of experience in predictive and preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to include, but not limited to: engine, transmission, drivetrain, electrical, brake, cooling, suspension, and automotive computer systemsProficient knowledge of the principles, methods, standards, tools, and test equipment used in performing predictive and preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipmentAbility to operate a personal computer and efficiently use Microsoft Office software programs to include Word and ExcelExperience using a computerized work order system preferredPrior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness.Licenses, Certifications, RegistrationsValid South Carolina Driver's License requiredValid South Carolina Driver's License Class A desirableSection 609 Certification for automotive refrigerant or ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hireSC DHEC Underground Storage Tanks Class A/B Operator Training or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hireTraining Needs:OSHA and Departmental safety training as requiredSkills Based TrainingStandard Operating Instruction (SOI) per department requirementsISO 14001 standards for department and companySee Department Competency and Training Matrix for this positionPotential Career Path:ELIGIBILITY FOR PROMOTION TO VARIOUS POSITIONS THROUGHOUT THE COMMISSION DEPENDS UPON INDIVIDUAL QUALIFICATIONS, AND NOTED JOB PROGRESSIONS ARE NO GUARANTEE OF CAREER PATH TO THESE OR ANY OTHER JOB(S) AT THE COMMISSION.Vehicle & Equipment Supervisor
