Primary Purpose/Job Summary:

This employee oversees the buildings and grounds of the school to assist in the enforcement of school rules, ensure the safety of students, staff and

visitors, and prevent damage to school facilities. The Security Director is expected to establish a rapport with students in order to provide an atmosphere that is safe and conducive to the proper functioning of the school, and to assist students or refer them to proper staff members for assistance with any problems. Work requires the exercise of independent judgment and is performed under the general supervision of the Dean of Student Formation.

The Security Director's supervisory responsibilities include managing outside services for events, setting schedules for other members of the team, coordinating with the campus monitor regarding coverage for the campus, and other duties as assigned. The Security Director is also expected to attend all after school events at which the majority of the faculty/staff will be present. Additionally, there are numerous evening events (games, dances, etc.) the Security Director will attend and/or ensure that there is adequate security coverage; all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a week are paid at an overtime rate, which is 1.5x the standard rate.

Respons

ibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:

Conducts regular security patrols of all areas of campus and grounds, including: halls, stairwells, rest rooms, courtyards, entrances and parking lots to prevent trespassing, loitering, and class cutting, and to protect persons and property, maintain order, and assure compliance with all rules and regulations.

Responsible for security oversight for daily ongoing activities on campus during normal school hours and select after-school events. Maintain a constant presence to students outside before and after school, during designated breaks and lunch periods.

Watches for illegal drug use and accompanies school administrators on locker searches for drugs, weapons, or other contraband. Documents campus vandalism or security concerns and complete necessary incident reports.

Responsible for campus traffic control, student & faculty parking permits/assignments and campus parking needs for campus events.

Conducts speeding and accident investigations on campus involving students, staff, and visitors. Completes incident reports and works with police when required.

In conjunction with the Dean of Student Formation, responsible for the continued development, revision, and implementation of the Crisis Response Plan, planning and implementation of the evacuation plans, fire drills, and lockdown drills.

Attends, plans, and implements on-going training and education of students, faculty and parents in the area of school safety.

Assists with disciplinary investigations involving students when needed, such as lost or stolen items.

Prepare campus for school day and other major events by setting up all traffic barriers and directional signs throughout campus. Open and close designated campus gates.

Stay current on local and national school safety issues and implement changes or improvements when necessary to enhance campus safety.

Coordinates the Trip Reduction Program, along with the Dean of Student Formation, for Maricopa County.

Maintain all security oversight and supervision prior to, during, and after school. Coordinates and oversees the scheduling of additional security at sporting and special events (i.e. Varsity games, Prom, Masses, Graduation, etc.) as needed or as determined by school administration.

Maintains security cameras and makes use of them as needed to assist with investigations and evidence-gathering.

Other duties as assigned by the school's administration.

Qualifications:

Commitment to the mission and values of Brophy's Catholic, Jesuit identity.

General knowledge of laws, rules and regulations applicable to a school district and necessary for promoting and maintaining proper conduct, and ensuring the safety of students, staff and visitors; general knowledge of crisis intervention and conflict resolution techniques; ability to defuse potentially dangerous situations; training in first aid and CPR; ability to follow directions; ability to develop a rapport with students; ability to explain rules and regulations in a way that will be understood and obeyed; tact; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position, including crisis intervention.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous law enforcement experience and/or experience as a School Resource Officer is preferred.
