We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant II to join our finance team. The Staff Accountant II will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements. The successful candidate will assist in various accounting tasks, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

What does a SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT do?

Assist with Financial Statements:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting documentation.
  • Review and balance internal and external system information.
  • Make appropriate journal entries, including risk-based capital reporting.
Investment Information Management:
  • Verify accurate recording and reporting of investment information.
  • Utilize the Clearwater cloud-based investment system for monthly updates and reporting.
  • Perform reconciliations related to investments.
Reporting Compliance:
  • Prepare and submit miscellaneous filings and payments in all licensed states.
  • Maintain a master list of reporting items and their due dates.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of quarterly and annual premium tax returns in each state.
Tax Compliance:
  • Comply with state tax laws by assisting with the preparation and filing of premium tax returns.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness to avoid fines and penalties.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for each return.
Unclaimed Property Reporting:
  • Comply with state Unclaimed Property reporting statutes.
  • Prepare and file escheat reports and payments by required due dates.
  • Research unusual items and verify outstanding amounts, making necessary journal entries.
Account Reconciliations:
  • Ensure accuracy and validity of financial information through monthly account reconciliations.
  • Research outstanding items and post adjusting entries to the general ledger as needed.
Contribution to Team Effort:
  • Cross-train with other team members for departmental understanding and backup support.
  • Provide assistance with miscellaneous tasks or projects as directed.
What is required?

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting or a related field.
Certifications Preferred:
  • CPA
Experience:
  • Two to four years of accounting experience.
  • Prior experience working with property casualty insurance strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of Business Central and FSIOasis (Annual Statement software), Premium Pro (premium tax software), preferred.
Other skills and abilities:
  • Detail-oriented with advanced analysis skills.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Clear and professional communication with senior leadership, co-workers, management, customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to influence across departments/functions.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Time management skills in a deadline-driven work environment.
