Announcement # 2024-233 Issue Date: 08-01-24 Closing Date: 08-21-24 Fisheries Biologist I Fisheries Resource Management (FRM) Department of Natural Resources Hourly Wage: $25.66-$28.88/Regular/Full-Time/Supervisory Location: Peshastin, WA The incumbent is responsible for technical fisheries work involved with hatchery coho monitoring and evaluation as part of Yakama Nation's Mid-Columbia Coho Reintroduction Program in the Wenatchee River Basin. The incumbent will also participate in research and sampling of ESA-listed spring Chinook and steelhead in tributaries of the Wenatchee River. This position supervises a crew of fisheries technicians and field operations, which include the operation of three rotary screw traps, spawning ground surveys, and electrofishing. The incumbent will also maintain and operate PIT antennas and coordinate PIT tagging for hatchery coho. Additional duties will include data synthesis and analysis, as well as technical report writing. Examples of Work Performed: Synthesizes and analyzes data related to coho monitoring and evaluation. Also assists in analysis of juvenile spring Chinook and steelhead data. Assists in writing technical reports. Operates and maintains PIT antennas for acclimation ponds. Organizes and uploads PIT tag data. Coordinates PIT tagging of hatchery coho. Oversees day-to-day operations of rotary screw traps. Participates in field work that may include, but is not limited to, spawning ground surveys, snorkel surveys, electrofishing, sampling and tagging of juvenile salmonids, and assisting with coho broodstock trapping and spawning. Supervises field technicians, including scheduling and training. Acquires permits for hatchery coho acclimation ponds. Performs other related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience with using PTAGIS, P4, and DART for uploading and synthesizing data. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word. Experience with swift water rafting and safety procedures. Experience with technical report writing. Knowledge of standard fisheries principles and procedures. Knowledge of fish species and identification characteristics. Ability to work outside under all types of weather conditions. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. daily. Ability to work assigned schedule that may include weekends, night, and holidays. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree and one year of professional experience. Must pass a pre-employment background check. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
