Help wanted Applications are being accepted for the full-time position of Animal Control Officer/Custodian for the City of Washington Animal Control department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to; cleaning and maintaining shelter, dog kennels, cat cages and litter boxes; daily communication with public which includes handling incoming calls and visitors, intake and processing animals, handling animal runs as well as a variety of animal issues and complaints; the worming and vaccinating of dogs and cats and euthanizing animals when necessary. The successful applicant MUST have compassion for animals, not possess a general fear of animals, must be able to lift heavy dogs and items, and must be prepared for the occasional handling of vicious dogs. Successful applicant must be capable of exercising good judgment in various situations, be energetic, a team player in a small department and committed to the job. Hours: Monday-Friday 1:00 pm-9:30 pm Every 3rd weekend Holidays (cleaning) On-call approximately every 3rd week (can include late night calls) Pay rate: $24.62/hr. after 90 days & satisfactory evaluation $110.00/wk.
