Job Description

Title: Project Engineer or Sr Project Engineer

Location: Elgin, IL

The Project Engineer designs and drafts food processing and packaging equipment, plant layouts, and parts. This position establishes budgets and timelines for capital projects and manages systems installations.

Functions of the Position:
  • Designs redesigns or modifies required areas and implements changes to resolve problems and improve equipment/systems performance and reliability.
  • Prepares completed layouts for final equipment/system design from simple sketches and/or vendor-supplied drawings for all company locations.
  • Manages new equipment purchases by working closely with vendors to ensure equipment meets manufacturing requirements. Performs equipment Factory Acceptance Tests or other activities related to machine purchases.
  • Works with other engineers, managers, and facility staff on design needs.
  • Manages internal projects by supporting Maintenance and Fabrication Shop employees involved in new projects and retrofits/upgrades.
  • Evaluates production equipment and related systems for optimization.
  • Monitors project costs and prepares progress summaries for the executive group.
  • Responsible for manufacturing, distributing, and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following current good manufacturing practices, allergen/sanitation controls, food defense/food fraud, HACCP/FSMA, SQF, and regulatory requirements.
  • Aware and accountable in maintaining and documenting preventative controls necessary to ensure food safety and quality.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to management.
  • Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills, and information within assigned team and across functional areas.
  • Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.
  • Responsible to comply with all safety policies and procedures established for health and workplace safety.
Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in engineering and project management.
  • Knowledge in the food/nut industry highly preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • AutoCAD certification
Skills and Competencies:
  • Operate office equipment.
  • Ability to supervise projects and personnel.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Project, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to be on feet for four hours a day and walk large facilities.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
