**Position Summary**

Fontanelle Academy of Early Learning seeks to hire experienced Assistant Teachers (AT) or Teacher Aides (TA). The Assistant Teacher will be assigned to an Infant/Toddler classroom. The Teacher Aide will serve as a floating teacher throughout the center. Assistant Teachers and Teacher Aides must enjoy caring for and teaching children. The AT or TA must have the ability to take instruction from teachers, as well as collaborate with teachers and other assistant teachers in their classrooms, as well as work with other faculty and staff members.

Assistant Teacher or Teacher Aide must be engaged faculty members with the ability to develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for children that adheres to the NECPA standards of accreditation and the Virginia Quality and Rating System (QRIS) process, the center’s _Fontanelle Foundations_ Curriculum and _Soft Spot Nourish and Care_ Method curriculum, and state licensing regulations. Additionally, the position includes the desire, determination, and ability to provide comprehensive services to clients, children, and families. AT or TA must have the integrity, drive, and work ethic needed to consistently provide comprehensive services to the center’s faculty, staff, children, and families.

**Responsibilities**

Assist the Lead Teacher in planning of weekly themes, lesson plans and daily activities. Observe, record and assess each child’s individual growth and development. Maintain a safe, healthy environment for children at all times. Actively engage in daily activities and routines with children. Ensure compliance with all Virginia Department of Social Services Commonwealth of Virginia rules and regulations.

**Education Requirements**
- Required Qualifications_

High school diploma or equivalent. Two years experience working with children birth to five years, or school age, in a home or center setting.

- Preferred Qualifications_

Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; enrollment in Early Childhood Education or related field at accredited university/college; or CDA credential/equivalent. Two or more years experience working with children birth to five years, or school age, in a center setting.

**Knowledge/Skills/Duties**
- Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children
- Actively engage in activities
- Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling
- Assist in the implementation of individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth
- Manage cleanliness, order and availability of classroom materials
- Conduct light cleaning duties such as gathering trash, sanitizing toys and table tops, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and other general duties similar in nature
- Establish positive relationships and communicate effectively with children, staff, administration, parents and members of the community
- Provide appropriate safety, supervision, and support as applicable to program guidelines
- Ensure all center policies and state licensing and health regulations are met
- Ensure a healthy classroom environment - including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children
- Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center
- Effectively conduct diapering and toileting procedures as it relates to job responsibility
- Adhere to all faculty and staff program guidelines
- Demonstrate ability in public speaking, written and oral communication, and interpersonal relations
- Have or obtain CPR/First Aid Certification, Daily Health Observation, pass health screening, and clear background checks
- Proficiency in the use of educational technology
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
