Summary

This position would be as need to fill in for any staff member who may be out on leave. In the summer months, this could be very often, almost daily. The Teacher Assistant supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Teacher Assistant observes and documents children’s interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Teacher Assistants are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Lead Teacher and the Director.

Duties

·Reflects the love of Jesus through words and actions, relating joyfully and sensitively to children.
·Maintains positive relationships among children, staff, parents, congregation, and community.
·Champions the mission and vision of SJLC and ECEC to our staff, children, and families.
·Creates a warm, safe, and welcoming environment for all staff, children, and parents.
·Fosters a positive and structured classroom environment that engages students and motivates them to succeed.
·Cultivates communication and relationships with parents.
·Continues to grow professionally through training, workshops, continuing education, and other opportunities.

Requirements

·Fluent English speaker
·Enthusiastic supporter of Christian mission.
·Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with SJLC and ECEC staff, board members, and families.
·Passionate for Early Childhood Education and clear understanding of child development, emotional intelligence, and social development.
·Cooperative and able to work in a team setting.
·Ability to adapt to changing conditions and needs.

Established in 1983, St. John's Lutheran Church's Early Childhood Education Center is a non-profit, nationally accredited, private preschool center. We provide high quality, affordable, year-round, full-day and before-/after-school programs serving 50 students, ages 2-5. The center is financially sound, has an 18-member staff, and is supported by a Board of Operations and the Senior Pastor. Our mission is to learn and grow together through Christ-centered childcare.
