Are you ready to dive into a career where every day presents a new challenge and opportunity to make a real impact on the environment and community? The County of San Diego is seeking a passionate and skilled Hydrogeologist to join our dynamic team
The Hydrogeologist will be responsible for providing technical expertise in geologic, hydrogeologic, and water quality conditions for the Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ). Duties include providing all of the DEHQ Divisions with a thorough understanding of water quality issues related to nitrates, inorganic compounds, and organic compounds; providing oversight of the assessment and remediation of sites contaminated with hazardous materials to protect water quality and public health; providing technical guidance regarding siting of septic systems and construction and destruction of wells and borings to protect groundwater quality; and providing technical assistance and guidance to the Local Enforcement Agency regarding the siting of new landfills and enforcement actions related to soil and groundwater contamination.

**Hiring Process and Timeline**:

- Job Offer and Background Process begins in June 2024. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

**Minimum Qualifications**:
Certification as a Hydrogeologist or a Registered Geologist in the State of California, **AND,** a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in geology, soil science, hydrogeology, civil engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering or a closely related field, **AND**, two (2) years of experience in the field of hydrogeology, which included identification and control of hazardous substance contamination.
Applicants must demonstrate a strong background in engineering, geology, hydrology, water quality, hazardous substances and environmental assessment and management.
