**THE ORGANIZATION**
United Way of Southeastern Connecticut (UWSECT) is a locally based non-profit organization supporting a network of health and human services, programs, and initiatives in New London County that work together to help people in need and improve community conditions. Programs and partnerships make an impact in four areas: Basic Needs; Community Wellness; Promoting Independence; and Thriving Children. Much of UWSECT’s work is framed by the ALICE Report, (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) which brings greater understanding to why those living above the Federal Poverty Level continue to struggle. In New London County, 37% of households live below the ALICE threshold.

**JOB SUMMARY**

**PRIMARY STRATEGIES**
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Community Impact and daily direction from the NFA Anne M. Mitchell 44' College & Career Center Director, the Job Developer will coordinate responsibilities that drive to the end goal of students needing additional support and direction to gain employment above ALICE levels. This position will oversee and implement strategies that:
1. Develop and maintain relationships between NFA and employers to build a portfolio of job opportunities by using local labor market data to identify hiring trends and prospective employers; participating in business networks, such as the Chamber of Commerce or local job councils; hosting employer open houses and/or advisory councils.

2. Assist with the creation and implementation of career development and job readiness programming for

3. Work with the NFA Student Support Team to connect students to support services and resources if needed to be completely job ready.

4. Use established processes to support and track students attaining gainful employment.

**KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Career Development & Job Placement**
- Develop, implement, and document plans for job placement service and independent job search
- Develop a knowledge of best practices for resume development, interviewing, and job searching
- Research job opportunities; Develop and maintain relationships with employers
- Council on resume development, interviewing, professional etiquette, and independent job searching
- Work with NFA students and graduates to understand their options and career goals
- Screen and refer for employment opportunities until objectives are met
- Maintain a job bank of career opportunities (full-time, part-time, seasonal) and support systems to make students aware of opportunities and how to prepare for them.
- Assist with the coordination of class trips to employers, career fairs and other career exploration events
- Monitor job shadowing site visits
- Push into classrooms to help student/teachers with resume creation and resources for career exploration
- Document business development, track students attaining gainful employment, create bi-annual reports and share with stakeholders
- Conduct meetings with participants
- Assess skills, work experience, credentials, and education
- Evaluate resume and interview preparedness
- Identify legal considerations for employment
- Screen, prepare, and refer to open opportunities, as appropriate
- Document each job placement engagement in database within 48 hours
- Screen and refer NFA students to job opportunities according to employer specifications

**Community Collaboration & Partnerships**
- Work with local Chambers of Commerce, including attending events.
- Work with NFA school leadership, counselors, and the Anne Macaione Mitchell 44' College & Career Center
- Attend local job fairs and assist with the coordination of job fairs/exploration events on the NFA campus.
- Work with partner organizations such as American Job Center, Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board, TVCCA, Eastern CT Transportation Consortium, Eastern Alliance Manufacturing Alliance.

**QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS**:

- At least 2 years’ experience in job development and social services.
- Experience working with youth and young adults in program, mentor/coach, or social service settings.
- Positive relationship-building, for the management of participants and employer partners
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication, including documentation skills
- Excellent public relations and customer service skills.
- Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
- Ability to organize and manage complicated projects and work plans.
- Ability to perform as an effective team leader and member.
- Valid driver’s license or access to reliable transportation.
