Associate Director of Addiction Treatment
6 days ago
**Who We Are**:
Since 1985, BHCHP’s mission has been to ensure unconditionally equitable and dignified access to the highest quality health care for all individuals and families experiencing homelessness in greater Boston. Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. We are committed to ensuring that every one of these individuals has access to comprehensive health care, from preventative dental care to cancer treatment. Our clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health professionals work in more than 30 locations to serve some of our community’s most vulnerable—and most resilient—citizens.
From our earliest days as a program, we have always sought to do work that is transformational: recognizing our shared humanity; centering dignity, compassion, mutual respect and supporting the right of every individual to access the highest levels of health care and every staff member to reach their fullest potential. We continue to be committed to building bridges and breaking down barriers, including systemic racism which harms us all. We provide community-based health care services that are compassionate, dignified, and culturally appropriate, incorporating social determinants of health, with the goal of breaking down the physical and systemic barriers that our patients face.
Bilingual, Bicultural, LGBTQIA identifying, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color are encouraged to apply.

**Job Summary**:
**Hours**: Full time, Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm; hours may vary
About 60% of those we serve have a diagnosed substance use disorder. Drug overdose is the leading cause of death among homeless individuals in Boston; same-month engagement in our buprenorphine program is associated with a 66% lower rate of death. In our program, we continue to expand on-demand access to all types of addiction treatment, while reducing the harms associated with drug use. We do not require people to stop using before seeking our help.
As the Associate Director of Addiction Treatment, you will serve as a clinician for people living with opioid use disorder and using medication for addiction treatment; as a supervisor and mentor for a team of nurse care managers who provide clinical care to people on buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone) for addiction treatment; ensuring equitable distribution of clinical work; formulating and updating clinical protocols; managing challenging cases and/or advising other nurses on management; and training staff both within the team and throughout the program on issues related to treatment of substance use disorders.
You will provide leadership in maintaining our program’s commitment to the inherent worth and dignity of our disenfranchised and dispossessed patients with substance use disorders. You will ensure that the flow and structure of our work supports our patients’ full access to appropriate care, which includes flexibility to address patient needs as well as staff with the support required to remain well-trained, emotionally resilient, and fully present for their patients.
**Responsibilities**:
All of the duties of Recovery Nurse positions, spending about half of time as a clinical nurse care manager; plus:
- Provides consultation regarding clinical issues within the nurse care manager scope of practice, for other nurses and clinicians both inside the OBAT program, and in other parts of BHCHP; supports and mentors nurses in the OBAT program.
- Maintains and updates clinical care protocols.
- Supervise management of controlled substances inventory, including record-keeping, ensuring security, and training staff; supervise management of injectable buprenorphine and any other buy-and-bill medications used by the team, including working with vendors to ensure a regular supply.
- Participate in management team meetings and regular coordination with harm reduction team and HIV team, to ensure holistic care for people who use substances; support satellite addiction treatment efforts at other shelters or affiliated programs, with training, protocol support, and other needs.
- Build and grow relationships with partner organizations (e.g., Boston Medical Center, Opioid Treatment Programs, residential treatment programs, etc.) for the benefit of our patients and our program.
- Maintain or supervise maintenance of patient databases and supervise retention efforts; ensure that policies and practices are aligned with goals of ensuring low-barrier and trauma-informed care at every step of the process.
- In conjunction with the Director of Addiction Treatment, maintain relationships with funders and participate in grant reporting activities.
- Ensure that staff administering stimulant treatment systems (including recovery rewards systems and data-gathering and maintenance) are carrying out their duties with scrupulous fairness and accuracy; regularly audit nursing note
