This is supervisory level auto body repair or mechanical repair work supervising a staff of skilled and semi-skilled technicians, trades workers and related support personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of automotive vehicles and their related equipment and components. Employees in the Mechanical Repair Specialty plan, assign, and review subordinates’ maintenance and repair work to ensure the proper and safe operation of vehicles assigned for City departmental use. Employees in the Body Repair specialty inspect vehicles damaged in accidents, compile detailed estimates of required repairs and may prepare cost estimates for Risk Management to recover losses. Work includes training, instructing and guiding subordinate personnel in proper vehicle equipment repair, maintenance and inspection methods, techniques and procedures. Work involves conditions which can only partially be controlled, some physical effort, possible exposure to adverse weather conditions, working in tiring positions and the occasional lifting of heavy material. Significant to the work for positions in the Body Repair specialty is using Windows-based computer systems and software designed to measure upper and lower body in performing job duties. Diagnosing malfunctioning vehicles and equipment and determining, through inspection and computerized diagnostic techniques, the extent of maintenance and/or repair required are significant aspects of the work. Work is performed under the general supervision of a fleet maintenance superior.**Union Code**

Minimum Requirements**Minimum Training, Education & Experience**
**1. **CIVIL** **SERVICE** **STATUS**:

- Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status in the **Department of Fleet Services **with a performance rating of Satisfactory or higher.
AND
**2. **EDUCATION**:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
AND
**3. **GENERAL** **EXPERIENCE**:
Four years of experience in the automotive trade in the area of specialization.
AND
**4. **SPECIFIC** **EXPERIENCE**:
**MECHANICAL** **REPAIR** **SPECIALTY**

Two years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade at the full performance journeyman level, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing automotive vehicles and related equipment.
**NOTE**:
1. Training in a post high school approved automotive trade school curriculum for a minimum of six months up to a maximum of one year can be equated on a month-by-month basis for the general experience requirement.
2. Current certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in the automobile or medium/heavy truck specialty areas may be substituted for the general experience requirement.
3. Possession of a bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology may be substituted for the general experience requirement on a year for year basis.

**Physical & Medical Requirements**
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.**Required Licenses & Certifications**
- Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure as a Fleet Maintenance Team Leader.
Possession of a valid proper class (CDL class B) motor vehicle operator’s permit as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania within six (6) months of appointment as a Fleet Maintenance Team Leader.
Possession of valid proper class official safety inspection license and a valid emissions control license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Fleet Maintenance Team Leader.
Employees will be required to obtain any license or certification by federal, state or municipal mandate if required by work assignment.**Other Requirements**
