**Humane Educator: Birthday Party Coordinator**
**Part-Time: Primarily weekends with occasional weekday evenings; hours per week vary based on demand. Parties are 2 hours long (total of 3 hrs with 30 min setup/clean up before/after).**
**Reports to: Humane Education Program Manager**

The Humane Education Programs at Hinsdale Humane Society aim to instill respect, protection, and understanding towards animals among children and adults. Focusing on animal welfare, safe interaction practices, and fostering compassion and inclusivity, the program embodies the organization's mission, philosophy, and values.

The Birthday Party Coordinator plays a vital role in educating birthday party guests of all ages about animal welfare while ensuring an enjoyable and fun experience aligned with Hinsdale Humane Society's mission. The position includes responding to inquiries, coordinating party logistics with guardians, hosting parties, and maintaining a safe, entertaining and educational atmosphere.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Monitor birthday party Interest form and respond to all inquiries in a timely manner.
- Communicate efficiently, politely, and professionally with all guardians.
- Maintain an updated calendar of scheduled parties and manage associated documentation, such as; birthday party agreement, deposit, guest list and waivers.
- Host and facilitate birthday parties, including educational tours, animal-themed games, and crafts.
- Ensure setup and cleanup of party spaces, returning them to their original condition. Guardians may bring food, non-alcoholic beverages, and decorations.
- Collaborate with the Humane Education Program Manager to stay informed about shelter activities and animal information
- Safely oversee interactions between adoptable animals and party guests.
- Handle animals with care and respect, under the guidance of the Intake and Animal Care
Director.
- Monitor animal well-being during parties and remove them if signs of stress are observed.
- Promote a positive image of Hinsdale Humane Society and report any issues to the Program Manager.
- Provide assistance and information to other departments as required.
- May be requested to assist with classes/camps within the humane ed department on occasion.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Knowledge in Google Calendar and Google Docs.
- Attention to detail and organizational abilities for party planning and coordination.
- Confidence in speaking to and managing large groups of children.
- Enthusiastic and energetic demeanor.
- Desire to learn and share knowledge with guests about animals within and outside HHS, as well as animal welfare topics, broadly.
- Dedication to animal welfare principles.
- Demonstrated patience and compassion for both humans and animals.
- Ability to foster cooperative relationships with staff, volunteers, and community members.
