**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Summary/Objective**
The Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes), a Spanish immersion school in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a Math Teacher. This position will work with our Middle School (6th Grade
- 8th Grade). The Math Teacher is responsible for creating a progressive learning environment where students can demonstrate thoughtful and ethical behavior and ensure that the values and principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile are at the heart of learning and relationships in the school.
**Essential Functions**
- Plan and teach Math lessons following the IB MYP Math framework and Magellan-designed curriculum.
- Differentiate for individual student needs and support students.
- Use a wide range of technologies and creative teaching styles.
- Contribute regularly to curriculum planning and development including interdisciplinary units of work.
- Plan with colleagues to deliver effective team teaching when possible.
- Attend regular curriculum planning and student progress meetings.
- Communicate students' progress toward realizing academic character development goals.
- Collaborate with Middle School teachers to implement the Magellan programme for Middle School.
**Essential Functions As It Relates To**:
Students
- Promotes high standards and expectations for academic performance and behavior.
- Serves as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.
- Ensures that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, questioning the known, problem solving and creativity, utilizing the scientific method, that they address the range of skills and developmental needs found in the classroom.
- Encourages students to define individual goals.
- Maintains a safe and creative environment for their students.
Faculty
- Supports teachers and co-workers.
- Attends all staff/ faculty meetings.
- Meet with the Middle Years Programme Coordinator to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate program's effectiveness.
Administration
- Maintains records on each child's progress and development.
- Provide day-to-day support to Teaching Assistants, substitutes, and parent volunteers, which includes sharing daily program plans and discussing goals for children.
- Keep up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, assessment tasks in databases.
- Monitor students at break times, lunch times, and other times as required.
- Contribute to the preparation of documentation for accrediting agencies.
Parents
- Communicate professionally and effectively to parents about student progress.
- Work with Room Parents in planning and participating activities.
- Conduct individual parent conferences at the end of each term.
- Establish a positive relationship with each student's family.
- Make presentations to parents as needed.
- Attends parent meetings when required.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents of high needs students.
External Community
- Curate local community offerings and communicate opportunities to the school community.
- Promote the Magellan International School Mission.
- Create and maintain connections with relevant community resources.

**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor's Degree in Math or highly pertinent degree / experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- A minimum of two years' experience teaching Math.
- Experience integrating information technology with teaching.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment.
- Ability to create a stimulating classroom environment.
- Ability to utilize the local context and environment to enhance learning.
- Ability to work with parents.
