**Job Description Summary**

Under general supervision, performs daily tasks related to maintaining sanitary conditions at the Pet Adoption Center; feeds and cares for all resident animals; facilitates animal adoptions; counsels and educates the public on animal retention and responsible pet ownership; supports the mission of the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center and ensure all pets are handled in a humane, positive manner. performs other related duties as required. The Animal Care Specialist is an entry-level classification.

**Main Responsibilities/Functions**
- Daily cleaning and disinfecting of kennels, equipment and work areas to prevent spread of zoonotic diseases.
- Feed and water animals daily.
- Provide prompt, courteous customer service, greeting the public as they enter the Adoption Center and ask them to sign in.
- Learn the names, behavior and personalities of all pets to ensure the best fit for a potential owner.
- Escort first-time guests through the kennels and/or cattery.
- Review adoption questionnaires and ask appropriate questions to facilitate a successful adoption.
- Learn how to correctly use the animal software program and create a complete record for each animal admitted into the MSRPAC. Enter additional information, medical updates, microchips, spay/neuter info, vaccinations, etc. on all pets.
- Handle all sales at the Pet Store; properly and accurately handle money.
- Clean, mop and sanitize the front lobby after dog accidents.
- Review and assemble adoption folders ensuring all information is up to date.
- Assist with evaluations and intake when requested by your supervisor.
- Assist with the laundry.
- Operate company vehicles to transport supplies, equipment, or animals; perform minor repair and maintenance of facilities and surrounding areas.
- May assist trained personnel in performing minor repairs and maintenance of facilities and surrounding areas.
- May assist with training new staff and/or volunteers.
- Participate in adoption events on and off-site.
- Receive, load and unload supplies, materials, and equipment from vendor trucks
- Help socialize animals and participate in canine playgroups

**Qualifications**
- 2-3 years of Customer Service experience including phone and face to face.
- Able to understand the importance of working as a team.
- Computer skills; including word and excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable handling all sizes of cats and dogs.
- Respectful and positive attitude in handling of the animals.
- Valid CA driver’s license is required.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule.

**Physical Demands**

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, grasp grip, put fingers together firmly and reach above and below shoulder level and lift, push or pull 50 pounds for situations of restraining or moving animals and lifting food and animal care supplies, repetitively use hands to operate computers; flex the neck upward and downward; twist the neck and the waist. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

**Work Environment**:
Will work primarily on site at animal care facility, with the occasion for off-site special and mobile events. There is a potential of exposure to parasites and infectious diseases that can be carried and transmitted by animals.

**Probationary Period**

The Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center is an “At-Will” employer with a probationary period of 6 months.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
