**Position Information**:
Arlington County's Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking to fill an **Infant Development Specialist (Service Coordinator)** position with primary responsibility for planning, coordinating, and delivering services to infants and toddlers (newborn - 3 years) with diagnosed disabilities; including atypical development or delays in the areas of motor, speech and/or cognitive, adaptive, social or emotional development. The position is located in the Parent/Infant Education (PIE) Program in the Public Health Division of DHS.

This position is in the Public Health Division, Parent/Infant Education (PIE) program, which provides service coordination activities in keeping with Federal and State Part C regulations under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). All services provided are also in compliance with the Infant and Toddler Connection of the Virginia Practice Manual.

Specific duties include:

- Completing comprehensive intake interviews with families referred to the PIE program;
- Completing developmental screenings;
- Providing families with information on procedural safeguards and rights relative to federal and state requirements;
- Identifying and coordinating community resources and services for the child and family to receive maximum benefits from early intervention services;
- Scheduling and facilitating the development and implementation of the Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP); and
- Completing necessary paperwork for admission and discharge, maintaining detailed documentation of all activities, coordinating with multiple therapy providers, and scheduling developmental assessments.

All services to families are provided in the home and community; and the employee makes home visits to complete intakes, assessments, and other meetings. The employee functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Success in the position requires excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

**Selection Criteria**:
**Minimum**:

- Master's degree in Special Education, Child Development, Nursing, Social Work or a related field; plus
- Some experience working with young children with special needs or at risk for developmental delay.

**Substitution**: A Bachelor's degree in the fields listed above or a directly related field plus considerable experience working with young children with special needs or at risk for developmental delay may substitute for the Master's degree and one year of experience.

- Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA);
- Interpreting the results of developmental assessments;
- Working with families with children with disabilities or developmental delays; and/or
- Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish.

**Special Requirements**:
The employee is required to use their personal vehicle for travel to family homes and public centers in Arlington. The employee will receive mileage reimbursement.

The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license, or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

**Additional Information**:
The pay ranges listed above are effective June 30, 2024.

**Work Hours**: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
