This position will be in support of the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program and the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine located in Bethesda, MD. The John P. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
**Responsibilities**:
- Collaborate with scientists and other bioinformaticians to understand research needs and translate them into software requirements and formulation of software solutions.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain bioinformatics software pipelines using tools and services for public cloud technologies.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a secure and reliable bioinformatics cloud infrastructure.
- Automate bioinformatics workflows for efficient and scalable data analysis.
- Cooperates with other groups in finding statistical and bioinformatics solutions to problems that may improve their research flow.
- Document software design, development, and deployment processes.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in bioinformatics tools and technologies.
Qualifications:
**Education and Experience**
- Master's Degree in Bioinformatics or related field required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.
**Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Experience in software development, preferably with a focus on scientific computing or bioinformatics.
- Strong programming skills in Python and R.
- Proficient in working with Linux/Unix operating systems, and experience with containerization technologies like Docker.
- Experience with bioinformatics workflow tools (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake, Cromwell/WDL).
- Willingness to learn cloud computing concepts and tools for public cloud platforms, preferably with experience on either Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
- Must acquire domain specific knowledge and understand the technical aspects of research projects.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
**Work Environment**
- This position will take place primarily in a office setting.
**Security Requirements: U.S. Citizenship Required and ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.**
