AmeriCorps is a civil society program supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors engaging adults in public service work with a goal of "helping others and meeting critical needs in the community." Members commit to full-time or part-time positions offered by a network of nonprofit community organizations and public agencies, to fulfill assignments in the fields of education, public safety, health care, and environmental protection. The program is often seen as a domestic Peace Corps. It employs more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year.

**Position Description**:
Salisbury Urban Ministries is seeking a Half-Time AmeriCorps member to serve in our Kid’s Café program and our Lazarus Food Pantry for the 2024-2025 service year.

Kid's Café is an afterschool and summer program for "disadvantaged” elementary school age children. The children receive homework assistance, participate in fieldtrips, are provided basic need items such as clothing, personal hygiene items, and school supplies, and are served a meal/snack on program days.

This Lazarus Food Pantry seeks to provide assistance to low-income individuals and families in Wicomico County.

**Member Responsibilities**:

- Assist the Kid’s Café Program Coordinator in all aspects of the program - homework

assistance, arts and crafts, fieldtrips, meals, etc.
- Assist with the Lazarus Food Pantry, inventory control
- Assist with community outreach via social media and volunteer recruitment events
- Assist with data entry and program reports

**AmeriCorps requirements** **for applicants include the following**:

- Have a strong interestin serving the community
- Be able to relate to diverse populations
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Able to provide copy of either high school diploma, GED, or college transcript
- Have reliabletransportation
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive Criminal History Check, which includes FBI fingerprinting
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident alien
- Applicants DO NOT need to be college students, anyone from the community who fits the above requirements may participate.

**Additional qualifications specified by the site include**:

- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to speak Haitian Creole is a plus, but not a requirement
- Per the insurance provider, the applicant is preferred to be at least 21 years old in order to drive the Kid's Café van if needed

**Benefits available to the AmeriCorps Member**:

2 weeks in August Flexible, 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM

**Lazarus Food Pantry**

September through mid-June Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30 AM - 1 PM

Mid-June through Aug 14 Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 AM - 1 PM

The member will begin on or after August 15th, 2024 and must complete 900 hours by August 14th, 2025.
