**Purpose**:The Land Use Planner is responsible for assisting the Chief Operating Officer in the analysis, review and response to development/redevelopment and land use projects including: rezonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, transportation plans, special use permits, variances and moderately difficult development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans, and regulations. The position is a key advisor to the Chief Operating and Executive Officer in formulating land use, planning, and economic development strategy for the Reston Association. The position will be involved in the creation of strategies in these areas. The position will have significant community visibility and interaction with the Board of Directors of RA and various Fairfax County and community groups relating to planning and land use matters.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Researches and develops recommendations for land use policy, management initiatives, and strategic priorities to COO.

2. Responsible for leading, listening, organizing, and communicating a variety of goals and visions with community groups, regional and local working groups, a variety of department and leadership level staff, as well as facilitating sometimes difficult discussions to internal team/project members.

3. Recommends Best Practice strategies based upon research of current and emerging trends in land use planning, land development, affordable housing, development incentives, and economic development issues and timely environmental concerns.

4. Develops and reviews planning studies in support of new and updated land use plans, programs, and regulations.

5. Prepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals, projects, land-use planning and development review activities and presents to the COO, Senior Leadership, the Board of Directors, Design Review Board, Covenants Administration, and other related Association Committees.

6. Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, tax base data, and demographics.

8. Coordinates community review of public and private development projects.

9. Conducts field evaluations and assessments in coordination with other RA staff.

10. Assists in maintaining current land use information through RA’s website and social media platforms in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Team.

11. Assists in responding to citizen inquiries regarding land use and development.

13. Attendance of evening and weekend meetings required.

14. Other duties as assigned.

Pay: $73,500.00 - $102,000.00 per year
