About the Opportunity

Northeastern University is a global leader in cooperative education and experiential learning in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The College of Engineering is seeking a Co-op Faculty member to work with our undergraduate and graduate engineering co-op students and employers on our Departmental Co-op team. This is a full time non tenure track faculty position based at the Boston campus and will observe a hybrid work schedule. You will join an inclusive team of faculty and staff working collaboratively to deliver an outstanding cooperative education program to engineering students.

**Responsibilities**:
Employer Relations and Job Development: The Co-op Coordinator leads partnership activities with employers throughout the US and globally. They develop new partnerships by connecting with engineering managers, human resources contacts, and alumni and staying current with developments in the industry/field, employers, and positions. Activities to support this endeavor include site visits to new and existing employers, outreach to potential new co-op employer partners, and active participation in relevant professional organizations. High-level customer-orientation, strong presentation skills, and experience in building and maintaining partnerships is essential.

Education of Students: The Co-op Coordinator guides students through their career development, preparing students for the co-op search and work experience by teaching co-op related courses each semester and through individual career coaching and advising meetings. Preparation includes teaching interviewing skills, resume writing, professional behavior and communication, engineering ethics, and other relevant learning objectives. Additionally, the Coordinator will help to prepare the international student population for employment in the United States. They also maintain contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and provide an opportunity for students to reflect about their co-op experiences.

The Co-op Coordinator engages in related service activities including delivering presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students, participating in committees and task forces, advising/supporting a student club, or contributing to a professional society.

Integrated Learning: Cooperative education is an integral part of the academic experience at Northeastern and our philosophy is that learning in the classroom is enriched by practical experience, and practical experience enriches classroom dialogue. The Coordinator collaborates with college faculty, leadership, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic experiences. The Co-op faculty member shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.

Qualifications:

- A master’s degree in college student development, counseling, education, or a related engineering/science or business-related field is required by the appointment start date, as well as a minimum of three years of professional work experience.
- A demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace.
- Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance, and strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual’s career development.
- Personal transportation and a valid driver’s license for travel to co-op sites is expected.

This role is a hybrid role, coming into the office 2-3 days a week.
