Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 th - 12? grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
Under the primary direction of the Diverse Learner High School Coordinator and secondary direction of the Building Principal and the Director of Special Education, the Diverse learner Secretary will be responsible to perform essential functions in support of the special education department and related to the needs of the special education administration including special education coordinators.
**Location**: Waukegan High School

**Responsibilities**:
(1) Utilize district approved data systems to maintain accurate records related to student and staff attendance, student enrollment and student behavior;
(2) Produce and transmit daily discipline summary reports to case managers, and coordinators;
(3) Assist with scheduling and monitoring high school special education transportation;

(5) Assist with IEP scheduling including maintaining a high school IEP calendar, scheduling and maintaining a schedule for conference rooms and scheduling of IEP subs;
(6) Provide general office support including typing, copying and faxing of rosters, memos, schedules, contracts, reports, including IEP’s;
(7) Check and distribute mail twice daily;

(9) Maintain necessary communications with special education administrators including the use of radio communication;
(10) Prepare, track and enter approved requisitions for instructional
materials/supplies and disseminate instructional materials/supplies to staff;
(11) Maintain all files and records in legible, accurate, organized manner;
(12) Attend meetings as requested and record minutes;
(13) Maintain and record materials or equipment checked out to staff members;
(14) Assist in scheduling appointments as necessary;
(15) Run Embrace program and compliance reports on a monthly basis or as requested by special education administrators;
(16) Assist with organizing high stakes testing including all state, district and high school level test accommodations and scheduling including but not limited to: IAA, Explore, Plan, PSAE and SAT accommodations and scheduling;
(17) Maintain inventory of departmental materials, sorting and storing materials as directed;
(18) Act as a liaison between the public and the office in such a manner as to present a positive image of the total school district;
(19) Maintain special education locker assignments;
(20) Alert special education administration of issues that need correction in student information systems;
(21) Provide quality service to parents, students, teachers and administrators;
(22) Assist with other activities in the division such as: division mailings, material ordering; etc.;
(23) Serve as the secretary for special education ESY programs at Waukegan High School, including adding enrollment lines;
(24) Perform duties for payroll
(25) Perform other job related duties as assigned.
**Skills**:
(1) Good communication, organizational, computer and interpersonal skills required;
(2) Specific skill in effectively interacting with broad range of stakeholders;
(3) Ability to operate in a confidential manner

(5) Ability to care for minute details and editing skills to ensure reliable and accurate results; verifying information for accuracy;
(6) Effective and efficient word processing skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs;
(7) Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and manage documents in a timely and effective manner; and
(8) pass the district’s secretarial test.

**Qualifications**:

- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm and the ability to pass required proficiency test(s).
- Confidentiality is a must.
