**Pastry Chef Job Description**

Stop in for lunch today and treat yourself to our veggie sandwich on focaccia bread or grab one of Jesus’s daily soup specials and some pasta salad The Pastry Chef should have the culinary expertise and experience to make a wide variety of desserts and baked goods. They must understand and appreciate the subtleties of flavor pairings and different tastes and have a good aesthetic sense for food and pastry presentation. This position is responsible for assisting with the daily preparation of all baked goods and pastries and is responsible for coordinating dessert menus and pastry production with the owner. They must be passionate about researching seasonally appropriate offerings in-line with local produce changes.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work with the Owner in executing and developing recipes within the restaurant’s vision
- Work with the General Manager and Owner on inventories and budgets
- Communicate with the pastry counter on pastry needs and updates on new and changing items
- Update and organize current recipe books with accurate weights, measurements, and procedures
- Keep pastry area clean and organized at all times; setting, and carrying out cleaning standards, schedules, and

procedures and adhering to health and safety standards
- Maintain the pastry prep and walk in areas keeping the areas organized, labeled, and rotated
- Establish and update pars on pastries and desserts
- Work through yields on existing and new recipes to establish accurate costs
- Update product offering with farmer’s market & local produce availability
- Identify staff needs and maintain great team morale
- Assist with the management of the pastry’s staff schedule
- Monitor stock and place product orders for the department while researching best cost /quality sources

**Requirements**:

- Two (2) Years of experience in a Pastry role, preferably leading others
- Must be familiar and confident in working in a multi-faceted concept
- Working knowledge of baking with ingredients such as ancient grains, fermented doughs, and alternative baking

techniques

with the Chef to order and source seasonal produce
- Certification in food safety is required (We pay for and provide the SERVSAFE class at our location)
- Must possess excellent math skills, and willing to learn the company’s POS system input and analytics, Microsoft

Excel and Microsoft Word
- Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
- Must have the stamina and ability to stand for long periods of time while working and to work 50 to 55 hours per

week
- Ability to work both independently and with a team
- Must possess a high attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
