The office supports the university’s growth and economic development efforts, including master planning; facilitates and develops relationships with community organizations, local governments, and civic organizations; supports community-based research and scholarship; and strengthens the university’s partnership with our neighbors.

Job Overview

The Community Director is a live-in position and supports, programs for and educates students (undergraduate and graduate) living off campus and supports, responds to concerns and educates non-students living in multiple neighborhoods immediately adjacent to Georgetown University’s main campus as outlined in the University’s Campus Plan.

Reporting to the Director of

Neighborhood Life

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Educational
- Interacts with students, parents, members of the Georgetown University community, and residents of the adjacent neighborhoods.
- Advises students and informs neighbors on city laws and university regulations related to trash, noise, leases, and deposits, mediating students’ interpersonal conflicts and landlord/tenant disputes.
- Serves as a resource person for students on matters related to living in residential neighborhoods, including, city trash/recycling disposal rules, opportunity for inspection of dwelling for repair and/or safety issues, relevant District of Columbia laws, and securing a residence for academic year breaks.
- Prepares and presents off campus orientation sessions for undergraduate students living off-campus.
- Follows up with “students of concern” from the Office of Student Outreach and Support, Georgetown University Police Department or another partner office.
- Works collaboratively with the Georgetown Student Tenant Association (GSTA) to support students concerned about their local housing.
- Educates and supports the Georgetown University Student Association (GUSA) and the Graduate Student Government (GradGov) to address and support student concerns.

Community Building
- Assesses the need of off campus student residents and administer programs to meet those needs.
- Manages, plans, and implements programmatic initiatives for the students living in the neighborhood community, including initiatives that would bring together students and neighborhood residents.
- Creates large
- and small-scale programs that invite students to understand the adjacent neighboring communities and the greater DC area.
- Promotes a monthly (BRiDGE) event that allows students and non-students to engage around topics affecting the community.
- Supports large scale University and District events such as National Night Out and Georgetown University's Community Day.
- Works collaboratively with the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) to support student and non-student concerns related to city agencies.

Administrative
- Issues trash citations to off-campus students and non-students for failure to comply with city trash/recycling disposal laws/rules and assists with following up on compliance as needed.
- Assists with maintaining up to date data on local address information for off campus students.
- Assists with the development and administration of communication with off campus students.
- Serves as a SNAP (Student Neighborhood Assistance Program) representative two nights per month (10 p.m. - 3 a.m. shift).
- Participates in the respective neighborhood associations for which the Community Director is responsible.
- Manages multiple office accounts on various social media platforms to engage students and non-students.
- Co-manages the University housing search website with a 3rd party vendor to ensure students, faculty and staff find safe and affordable housing.
- Participates in a 24/7 weekly duty rotation to support students of concern and responds to concerns through the University’s 24/7 Helpline.
- Attends monthly Georgetown Community Partnership (GCP) meetings in support of one of the working groups.
- Plans, executes, and manages the Move in and Move out trash and donation process supporting students and non-students in the community.
- Assists and supports Facilities and Planning Management with daily neighborhood trash pick-ups.
- Accepts assignments to participate in university and departmental committee work as needed.
